I don't know if it's a new thing or not, but they no longer offer wifi on the weekends. They put a cute, 12" sandwich board on the counter announcing that they're trying to conserve space on the weekends. The sign should be on the front door, because the only reason I was going in there today was to work on some stuff; and yes, that includes Facebooking. Don't you judge me! Also, they serve no real food. They do have a sandwich shop owned by the same people a block away, and allow patrons to buy a sandwich and bring it to the cafe. So, that's what I did: I bought a Cobb salad at the corner, and took it to De Leche, and THAT'S when I found out they don't have wifi on the weekends. What the sign on the counter offers as alternative is "small talk". How cute.
This policy might be working for their business, but for me, it was frustrating enough that I won't be back. I'm posting this review so you don't waste your time going in there on the weekend, unless you like small talk with baristas, who, if they have time for small talk, are proving how the policy is NOT working.
The reason I'm giving them a "Poor-Fair" for food is because the turkey and ham in my salad was cheap, low quality, discount grocery meat. It was slimy and overly chewy, and made the experience that much more frustrating.
Ahhhhhhhh! I feel better. You don't know me, but this is serious growth. I didn't type a single swear word or dirty name. The fact that I'm writing this instead of yelling it at the baristas, who are only doing what they're told, is a sign that the meds are working. So. this is as much a positive review for my antidepressants as it is a negative review for...
Read moreAesthetically pleasing decor. Simplistic menu, literally right on the counter. Gender-neutral, clean, stocked restroom. Live succulents line the outside windowsill. High ceilings add to the size of the coffee shop. I ordered their popular item Horchata con Expresso w/ hemp milk (because Hipsterville) & a slice of banana bread. My drink was hot & newly made, just how I like it, banana bread was kept at room temperature which was perfect. It was also soft, moist, I could tell it was also prepared quite fresh. Music was okay. Crowd was mostly locals: some parents with 2 year olds (even the kiddos were little mini hipsters!), exercising early birds, or maybe latenight owls that have sort of carried over to say hi to the morning autumn sun. Service was quick, considering it was only two lady staff members who were "manning" the...
Read moreThe atmosphere is usually calm here; friendly baristas, the music that plays depends on the baristas so its nice to hear new different tracks. Expect people to stay for long periods of time working on their laptops, so you might wanna save a seat before you order because i can get full in no time. Free wifi, hence the laptops (except on no wifi weekends).
FYI There are no blended Frappuccino styled beverages. If thats what you're looking for on those hot sweet-tooth craving days.
They have the standard coffee drinks but are well known for specialty drinks such as the infamous Horchata con espresso, Agave Latte, Mexican Mocha Latte, as well as a few others. Drinks dont take that long to prepare unless theres a rush. The prices are reasonable and surprisingly not as expensive as other hip coffee...
