This was my first visit to the Highland Cafe on York Blvd. I stopped in for a quick breakfast and coffee. I had a cup of regular drip coffee, and it was excellent. I really dislike the "light roasts" that seem to have become very stylish. I was impressed by my cup. Smooth, full, but with none of the odd "plant-y" flavors that people aside from me must like, because it's everywhere. This went down smooth and didn't induce any unpleasant jitters.
I also got one of the tiny breakfast burritos. I forgot it what it was called, and more or less ordered it on the cashiers advice. It was excellent, and the texture was a real delight, with a nice bit of crunch from something inside that was fried. Perfectly I might add. Also, it wasn't too soggy or structurally unsound. In other words, relatively easy to eat. I probably could have eaten two of them to be honest, as they're pretty small compared to the average Los Angeles breakfast burrito.

Read moreMost of the staff is cordial but one women was incredibly rude. We ordered coffee from this establishment and had bagels from belles bagels a few steps away. We sat ate and drank our coffee. We started to pack up and look for another place to go when the female employee came out and told us to leave (20 mins of sitting time). She said we can’t have outside food. She was late of telling us this because we had already finished our food (empty bag on the table) but hadn’t finished our drinks we purchased from them. We didn’t get a “hi”, “hello”, “Don’t know if you were aware....”. She could’ve spoken to paying customers with an entirely different tone. She chose to be rude when she woke up this morning. We had no problem packing up and leaving, we were doing that anyway. She look at the table and saw that we had drinks from them and walked away. No apology, nothing! Won’t be...
Read moreThis is the best place to go after you partied all night and have not had any sleep and are in the mood for carbs! I always eat gluten-free so I was very excited when I found out they had gluten-free bagels! I just had a gluten-free bagel, with dairy free cream cheese and with honey! I ordered a fresh americana which was delicious! My friend ordered the chilaquiles And a cinnamon French toast! I tried a bit of the chili Quiles and have to say it was really delicious and the sauce was perfect! And the next time I go I am definitely ordering that! They're open daily 8am to 5pm. The breakfast is served all day. Their French Toast is delicious, but I usually end up ordering their Kale Cesar Salad with chicken. I highly recommend this place for both the quality of food and the friendliness...
