Sticky Rice, Highland Park — Restaurant in Los Angeles

Horrible experience today 12/11/2024 at 7PM. I first ordered Khao Soi with chicken, something I do once a month. It’s usually perfect. I got home, started to heat my Khao Soi and saw there was no chicken. I poured the khao soi out of my pot and back into the take out container and drove back.

I arrived, they apologized and gave me new Khao Soi curry cup now with chicken. Good!

But then i drive home, heat it again and add the noodle mixture which is all wrong, comes with mushrooms, carrots and all these other veggies that have never been in one of my Khao Soi meals, EVER! Sure, whoever ever complains about getting extra veggies - but I really hate mushrooms, and this just isnt what I asked for! They didnt even come with those pickled peppers they usually come with, or whatever that green/yellow thing is called.

So i drove back AGAIN, and told the same employee - and he straight up lies and says the khao soi always comes with mushrooms and carrots, etc and I tell him “no, that’s not true. The menu doesn’t even list mushrooms or carrots in the order. The guy never apologized for having me drive back a second time or for lying to my face about the khao soi always having mushrooms, just gave me another order of noodles and then I had to ask him for another thing of curry - since i had already merged my noodles w it. So frustrating. Driving home for a 3rd time now and hoping...

9/9/21 4.5 stars, got green & yellow curry. Green curry - Last month I was obsessed with their green curry. The wait was over 30min but so worth it. Only option was tofu, and it was delicious. Fried so well with such thick skin that soaked up the curry flavor. Shitake mushrooms that had excellent taste and mouthfeel. Actual thai eggplant and basil floating around. I still dream of that curry.

Last night though…. The flavor was still there but it didn’t measure up. The tofu was not as fried, skin very thin, and they had button mushrooms. It just wasn’t the same. Still, very excellent curry, but not like last month. :(

Ordered spicy - finally some spice. Medium spicy is very mild.

The yellow curry was strangely spiced though, seems like the chicken had all the chili so it was very spicy compared to everything else.

7/17/21 Yellow curry - delicious, a bit thicker, almost like Japanese curry. Very creamy like a bisque, chicken is moist, rice perfectly cooked. They have purple and yellow potatoes. Medium spicy was not spicy at all.

Sticky rice burger - also delicious just not on the same level as the curry. 8:30 on Saturday and they were sold out of papaya salad so substituted...

The indoor is mainly bar and super cosy. Has a pool table and cute decor. The food is ok but serving sizes and prices were not in my favor. The Curry was good but could be (a lot) spicier. The pad see ew was saucy and flavorful but not much really a family sharing portion. The white rice was fresh but not the sticky rice. It came in the holder and just felt like a gag when it wasn’t even fresh.

This chain def caters to a certain client so take this food with a grain of salt and maybe ask for extra spice when ordering.

Had tried 2 other locations previously and it’s very consistent so I do really appreciate the chefs on that.

Sadly, the old man bartender with the glasses was really unprofessional and made us super uncomfortable, we will not be coming back to this location. Bar staff training should be taken again, like for...
