City Wok — Restaurant in Los Angeles

Let me start This review by saying the food here is really good. That being said there are serious problems with customer service here. I came here to eat yesterday and encountered yet another problem. And they always seem to stem around one employee in particular.I did not get his name but he is a white male with a little bit of a scruffy beard and wears glasses.Every time I come here and order and he is the one taking the order I know there's going to be a problem. And guess what, I was right.

I put my order in for an order of chow main and a 1/2 order of city wok chicken. I was told my order would take about 10 minutes. About 8 minutes later I saw them put food up on the counter near the bagging area. I thought it might have been mine but I decided to wait a little longer until I was called. Another 10 minutes go by and that is when I approach that employee to ask the status of my meal. He then went to that food that was dropped 10 minutes ago and started bagging it and then he asked me what exactly I ordered. It turns out he didn't even put the order in for the city wok chicken and I was told it would take another 10 minutes to make that part of the order. So my chow mein sat there for an extended period of time waiting for the chicken.

So it ended up taking me twenty eight minutes to get my order. This type of thing is a frequent occurrence when having to do with this particular employee. Even when I walked into this place this day I saw him working behind the counter and I said to myself, "s I wonder what the problem is going to be to day". This guy is inattentive to guests and obviously cannot multitask.

Upon entering on June 8, 2025, I encountered Jeremy, who was not professional, customer service oriented, or courteous at all. He was just short mannered and rude. He did not even seem to be trying to be nice at all.

I was coming to use the supposed birthday gift (free entrée) that was sent to me. When I attempted to use it, I was told that they were not accepting them anymore because, in a nutshell, they supposedly could not verify its legitimacy. Then, why was it sent to me, as it had been for many years? Honestly, if they wanted to verify it and serve me, they could. But, I was over this place.

It was really disappointing because I had been coming here for 25+ years. There have been a good amount of changes over the years but, I still kept returning. However, I will not be returning this time. There was no welcoming feeling and polite friendliness that I had felt before.

Hopefully, at some point this company will reassess its priorities and go back to basics because it is nothing like it used to...

I tried, I really did. I came here with my family to have dinner. This was one of our old spots we decided to give a try again. Walking in we noticed the place was emptier than usual, but we thought it was just because of the date and time. When we ordered drinks, they came out mixed up, to the wrong person, and in some cases even the wrong drink. We ordered a wide variety of food, starting with the wokomole. Please dont order this. It tastes like bland baby food with a hint of ginger. The chips that come with it are pretty good though. The hot and sour soup was fine, but all the meats were either too dry or overloaded with sauce. We left with full stomachs, but weren't too satisfied. Maybe sometime in the near future I will return here and enjoy my meal, but untill then, I am going to take a little break...
