Stopped in here for the first time before heading to the Hollywood Bowl on a Saturday around 4pm. There was a crowd but it wasn't crowded. Plenty of space at the bar, where I sat. Bar tender was super attentive and friendly. Good selection of wines, very diverse, and bar tenders were knowledgeable based on convos I heard. I opted for a juicy IPA bc they have a nice rotating selection of about 8 beers on tap.
Food selections is limited, this is more light fare/snacking. I opted for the charcuterie board with 3 selections of cheeses and meats for $23 (there are more options than that to choose from). Initially they thought that the one meat selection I wanted was out of stock but then half way through my board they found an unopened package and brought me out a plate on the house. They definitely didn't have to do that.
Really enjoyed everything about this place, including the ambience which consisted of low key classic r&b. Highly recommend and will be coming back...
Read moreThe Covell boasts sidewalk seating, which is their prerogative. On the other hand, this privilege does not extend to them the right to commandeer the public right-of-way. When Covell employees deliberately choose to abuse their sidewalk seating privilege to block public access by positioning multiple heaters when the current outdoor temperature at noon is 76 Fahrenheit and the temperature at midnight, Covell's closing time, is projected to be 64 Fahrenheit specifically to block egress to my bicycle which was locked to a public guardrail adjacent to the public sidewalk is no less than the juvenile action of jerks.

Provided you look like you can afford a generous tip, I'm certain your experience will be different. As for their food: It's...

The wine list is excellent. Just adventurous enough without going off the rails. And the bartenders here know their vino. Don't hesitate to ask questions and tell them what you like. They won't lead you astray.
Also ... beer! Yes, there's at the wine bar. And damn good beer too. They have six different taps in rotation and I've never gone in and not found something that interests me.
The space itself is great and relaxed. A long bar and a few low benches and high tables. There's also a small outside area if you get there early enough. It's dark and cool and the kind of place that is conducive to conversation and hours of hanging out.
There no food, but during the day you can grab tacos from Home State next door and bring them in.
Parking can be a challenge at certain times, but never so crazy that it's not worth going. Always...
