Say two words... Eastside Market... to anyone who has been there and they immediately want to know when are you going, can they go with you or if you can pick something up for them. Thinking about it, I want to go back now.

Not really a market anymore. It's a family owned, family run business that has transitioned into probably the top Italian deli sandwich shop in the downtown LA area.

Located on side streets between Chinatown & Dodger Stadium, this gastronomic gem serves up wonderful sandwiches on fresh rolls & pasta dishes that leave their customers vowing they won't wait so long to come back again. $$

Literally, there is nothing fancy here... order & wait for your food at the counter, then find/ share a table. Bare concrete floors, client accessible soda machine & peppers, a dozen tables, plastic utensils & no wait staff leave you with the feeling you've arrived at a casual community fundraiser or picnic. The conversations are generally light and laughter is commonplace. No one is a boss or a stranger here. Everyone is simply enjoying themselves, bonded through the delightful food they are experiencing.

My personnal favorite is the eggplant parmigian sandwich... large slabs of thick hot well cooked eggplant parmigian spilling out of a fresh soft roll smothered in red sauce... yummm... definitely not a neat sandwich, but most certainly worth it.

The abundant hot meatball, Italian sausage or meatball-sausage sandwiches are equally as mouth watering... As are the freshly sliced deli meat sandwiches & dishes of steaming pasta (daily specials).

Although a small army of employees are continously prepping & cooking the ingredients, as well as rapidly assembling the sandwiches, etc., be prepared to wait 5-15 mins, sometimes longer. The continously advancing line at the counter is a constant. The old saying, if you want good food, look for a place where police & firemen eat is true here. Among the local & repeat diners you'll find numerous law enforcement & fire department personnel casually dining among regulars, DWP, court staff, municipal workers and locals... all brought together by a common...

This no Jack in the Crack!!! Eastside deli is one of those sandwich shops that u wake up in the morning think about. At work counting the minutes til ur able to take lunch and go get one of ur favorite sandwiches. These sandwich creations have a taste all their own. I lived blocks from here for 12 years and would eat here 3 to 5 times a week. I didn't know how good I had it until I moved out of this neighborhood. The staff is awesome and genuine. They really care about their customers and their community. Community-based family shops like this are disappearing extremely fast these days. Which is terrible for the community, because the money spent here goes right back into the community like it should. Where do u think the money u spend at corporate fastfood chains goes? I'll tell u, not in the community. It goes to a corporate CEO's bank account never to be seen again. Do think just cause the fast food is in ur community it goes back into it? NO it doesn't.That CEO couldn't careless about a community he's never heard of. Well its the opposite for the homies at Eastside Italian Deli they care deeply for their community and it shows by their interactions with the community and the love u can taste in each bite of their sandwiches.
