Okay, first, RACE DON’T WALK TO THIS HAVEN!! Honestly, I know know there is enough digital space on these interwebs that will fully articulate how INCREDIBLE my experience was, how PHENOMENAL the food tasted and how EXTRAORDINARY Juri (the Owner) and Nina (the Server) were during said experience. Okay, to set the vibe:
I and my dear dear friend went to Gritz N Wafflez to kick off her birthiversary in true foodie style, as we are ever-inclined to do. Upon entering the establishment, Jurni greeted us so warmly and familiarly that I thought we were cousins. Already a great start. While we waited for a table to open up, Jurni invited us to look at the menu and even place our order so that it would be close to ready by time we sat. Then, a table opened up so we ordered after sitting.
I had the shrimp n gritz, waffle fries plus a lavender lemonade, while [Birthday Queen] had the fried catfish n gritz, smoky Mac with a lemonade; then we agreed to share a peach cobbler waffle…YALL! The food was so good I like to have cried tears of joy and tell my mama “I’m sorry but someone out did you” right then and there. The food was exquisite! Flavorful, perfect portions, made with love and blessed by angels. There’s just no other way to describe it. THEN, Jurni caught wind that it was [Birthday Queen]’s day, so this goddess SANG to her and wished her a beloved birthday. Gritz N Wafflez can have my appetite and every cent of my spending money any time, any day, any occasion, you hear me?? Music was on point to, I was ready for karaoke! All that to say: GO THERE!
My ONLY “issue” was that it was quite warm in there. I don’t know who the landlord is but it’d be in their best interest to handle that so folks can elevate that much more while enjoying their meal.
Jurni, Nina & staff, thank you so so SO much for not only helping to make [Birthday Queen] incredibly special, but for being so genuine in every other way from beginning to end. We will ABSOLUTELY be back, and likely before this...
Read moreI guess we visited during their soft opening. Very disappointing experience. Our waitress was Jasmin, blonde sister locks and unnecessarily hostile. Young gen Z attitude who can afford some customer service up training. The restaurant ran out of bacon, no catfish, no sodas, no peach cobbler compote for the waffles as advertised and no pancakes. Also included was a hostile waitress who thought telling patrons, we can’t control what goes on in the kitchen was okay to do. A side of eggs was $6.50, a side of home fries was $6.50 also. The fried chicken had zero seasoning on it. I thought I was coming to a down home breakfast spot but ended up at a less than luxury waffle bar where 4 wings and a waffle with no common breakfast sides like eggs were included for $27. The lovely owner did come out to apologize for the restaurants short comings. She even had to tell little Ms. Jasmin to walk away who thought she was going to stand there to hear my complaints and argue with me. There was also a half naked woman in the kitchen with a black crop top on and black leather pants who was doing everything from prepping plates to washing dishes. It was very unsightly and our waitress really did make the experience even worse. My food came out last due to the kitchen making a mistake. I was only given a free side of peaches that I originally ordered but was told I could do the Cinnabon waffle instead at no charge but I was still charged. I would wait until they get it together a little more and perhaps hire more professional help. There was also 30% gratuity added for a large party but instead of 1 charge you added it to each bill (party of 4 and party of 3). I will never return but maybe others may...
Read moreWe came in as walk-ins and were asked to wait while they prepared a large enough table. The server started putting tables together but thought two small tables would fit six people, which would have been uncomfortable. After taking our order, it took forever to get our drinks, and we were never even offered refills. We were in the restaurant from 9:25 AM until 10:50 AM. Now let’s talk about the food. Everything lacked seasoning and not in stock. I ordered the wings and waffles with berry topping—the only thing I really wanted—but instead, they brought me a plain waffle. When I asked, I was told they didn’t have the topping and was basically expected to just eat it as is. Another person in our group asked for mayo for a breakfast sandwich and was told they didn’t have any, so the sandwich came on dry Texas toast. When the food arrived, we asked a simple question about the meat on the sandwich, and the server rudely responded, “If that’s what you ordered, that’s what it is.” On top of that, they automatically added a 20% tip for parties over six. Normally, we tip well over 20% when the service is good, but in this case, two complete meals were sent back, our server never once checked on us, and the payment device was handed to us with the tip already pressed. One order could have been fixed, but instead, the server avoided us altogether. Coming from states where hospitality is a priority, I can honestly say I would never recommend this...
