On my first visit, I liked Jeni's Splendid Ice Creams so much that I somehow ended up here two days in a row. Mr. Joy and I usually share one serving, but the flavors all sounded enticing, so for once, we each got our own and enjoyed them on the bench by the window. Now when I pass by, I find it hard to ignore the neon orange sign outside that signals refreshing satisfaction.
The cups of ice cream are served in little biodegradable bowls and spoons, finished with 2 triangle pieces of waffle cone. The ice cream is a little pricey side though.

Roasted Strawberry Buttermilk - roasted Ohio strawberries blended with tangy buttermilk: just the right balance of sweet and tart flavors, and the buttermilk cuts right through the acidity, making it such a creamy strawberry ice cream.
Milkiest Chocolate - grass-grazed milk and Fair Trade cocoa, touch of honey: super milky indeed, with a rather light chocolatey taste
Intelligentsia Black Cat Espresso - ground Intelligentsia Black Cat espresso beans steeped in cream: I sure like coffee ice cream, and I liked the smell of it just as much. Plus, this is one creamy espresso.
Brambleberry Crisp - oven-toasted oat streusel and a sweet-tart "brambleberry" jam of blackberries and blackcurrants layered throughout vanilla ice cream: Flavor is more tart than sweet. This is almost like a fruity oatmeal version of ice cream.
Lemon & Blueberries Buttermilk Frozen Yogurt - fresh lemon buttermilk frozen yogurt with swirls of from-scratch blueberry jam, cultured buttermilk and organic yogurt: a very smooth froyo with extra tart, acidic, lemony, berry flavor
Brown Butter Almond Brittle & Coffee - brown-butter-almond candy crushed into buttercream ice cream: a sticky sweet crunch embedded into the ice cream.
So far, my favorites of the bunch are roasted strawberry, milkiest chocolate, and the espresso. As much as I like citrus flavors, I guess the jam mixtures aren't my favorite thing. As for brittle, it is just not my preference. The creamy texture and unique flavors at Jeni's are their selling...

Read moreNever have I ever had better ice cream. This place is 30 minutes from my house. I've been here 3x this month alone. I can't stay away. It's actually ruined me because I can't even go to Salt & Straw or Afters anymore. The flavors are more advanced, the ingredients more pervasive in each bite, and every flavor is independently distinct. There are no cheats here folks. I feel like their calling card should be the Goat Cheese & Cherry, which is a rich, creamy, cheesecake-like iced cream with some cherries that I've only had the pleasure of tasting when I was at Pikes Market in Seattle. But then I try their Brandied Banana Brulee which is something the likes of that I've never had. The banana ice cream is custard like, with bits of toffee like candied Brandy, which makes the whole oral experience feel like I'm fine dining and the dessert has been prepared at my table and fed to me gently by my Parisian waiter. My 1a to the aforementioned flavors is the Brambleberry Crunch, which I aliken to a deliciously baked raspberry/blackberry pie, chopped up and thrown into a delicious creamy iced cream. The morsels of pie crust. The tartness of the berry. Ooooof. So good. I must mention all the fun flavors and vegan options that they have. I can't name them all but I guarantee there's not a bad flavor in this lot. The vegan choice is a cold brewed coffee with coconut milk. It's like an espresso with a mocha like amaretto liqeure. Just fantastic. ...
