Pork Katsu Sando w/ Curry Dip - 5 🌟!
Katsu Sando went from 1 location in DTLA to 3 locations, and they are all quite far apart from each other. That's good for me because that means if I'm having a craving and I probably will be reasonably close to one of their amazing sandwiches.
I went to Topanga Social recently and immediately got a pork katsu sando. I've said this before, but this sandwich is so good with the curry dip, but it also transforms it into one of the messiest sandwiches I love to eat - and that's a big bonus! Because it is sometimes fun to get a little messy when eating something this good.
The curry dip isn't on the menu at Topanga, but you can ask for it at the counter.
They are part of the new upscale food hall and it is a lovely, modern place to enjoy a meal. The rest of the mall is still under a lot of renovations, but the food hall is all I need.
I saw a bunch of reviews from opening day. Don't get discouraged. Most of what these early reviews were discussing were fixed by the time I went. LA needs more places like Topanga Social and Katsu Sando, so get out there and...
Read moreDisregard the bad reviews this place and other places at Topanga Social have - people really have no clue what they’re talking about. This place is awesome! If you love katsu, you will really enjoy Katsu Sando. This is a classic quick Japanese snack, and even though it’s not the quickest thing in the world here, it’s well worth the wait. I got the Honey Walnut Shrimp Sando and the Curry Cheese Fries this visit - they were AWESOME! The sando tasted like the sandwich version of honey walnut shrimp you’d get at places like Panda Express. If you’re craving that type of food, this is like the ultimate place. The Curry Cheese Fries were amazing!! They’re cheesy waffle fries with a Japanese curry sauce - massive portion, and super tasty. Do keep in mind this place isn’t cheap; however, this is in a very upscale mall, so the prices are entirely reasonable. This is the closest food-court type place I have seen anywhere in the US to things you’d see in Singapore and Thailand. It is amazing and I am so happy Topanga Social is here. Check...
Read moreThis is the tenth or eleventh time I had Katsu Sando but my very first in Topanga and it is disappointing as heck. The sando is ready within 30 seconds I ordered on the kiosk and as expected, the chicken cutlet is cold, the breading just shreds off, it is flavorless even with the sauce, and the bread is soggy. At the time I ordered the kiosk also didn't have their portobello sando too, I guess they ran out or didn't have them readily fried earlier and have it available for the entire day.
I'll go back to the Chinatown location as I always had done, I'd rather wait 15 minutes and knowing I will get a freshly fried cutlet....
