Are you telling me Lamonica's gets its pizza dough shipped in directly from NY??? UPDATE I was contacted by the Manager of Lamonica's who informed me that the dough is in fact imported from NYC! So hey this is a true New York style pizza in Westwood.
Lamonica's provides a New York nostalgia as soon as you enter. The walls are littered with murals of popular NY destinations and customs, they even have this large mural of the metro system located new the back of the pizzeria.
Ordering is super simple. As soon as you walk in thereās a long glass display with an oven behind it and you just tell the pizza architect which kind of pizza you want. All the pizzas are premade and they use the oven to heat it up and reawaken the flavor. You can pay by cash or card. The two pizzas I ordered, the bbq chicken and tomato basil came out to 6 bucks and some change. Both were equally delicious and combined filled me up. The crust is amazing both thin and crispy like I like it! The seating area is a bit cramped to large parties may what to take it to go. But itās plenty of tables for two. On a Tuesday at 830 it wasnāt really crowded but started to really get popular once 9pm rolled around. They have the 9 dollars after 9pm where you get a large one-topping pizza for, thatās right, 9 dollars! They offer this deal every day after 9 and all day Sundays. Great offer and it really packs the place. Daily they offer lunch combos. You can get 2 reg cheese pizzas slices and a soda for 5 fifty, two topping pizza slices and soda for 6 twenty five or a slice with salad plus a soda for 6...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreMany iconic NYC pizza houses of renown are making their way to LA. Lamonicas is an institution.
The claim to fame is they ship in the dough from NYC, a la the famous NYC tap water that supposedly makes the pizza slices sing.
As someone who travels the world for pizza, and prefers different slices over the commitment to a single pie, Lamonicas does not disappoint, and in fact lives up to the hype.
Thereās paid street parking. I got lucky and got a spot. They donāt do online ordering so I ordered in person. Service was friendly and helpful. They gave me the neighbor discount :)
I ordered 3 veggie slices and 2 meat slices for our crew of 3 adults and one very discerning food critic who happens to be 3 and a half.
The 3 and a half year old loved her cheese pizza slice and said we should do this again. She also loves Danny Boy Pizza which is a few blocks away.
The meat slices crew loved the pepperoni slice and thought it was one of the best pizza they had this year. Thatās high compliment. The magic seems to be in the dough.
Even if you order at the counter, the pizza is ready within minutes. The grandma square was decent, chewy and had good flavor, the sauce wasnāt too sweet and had depth, but the pesto was the show stopper.
For 5 pizza slices, I think with tip and discount it netted under $39, not exactly cheap but a very satisfying experience.
This is a good addition to the UCLA/Westwood neighborhood.
Tip: Try the slices before you buy the pie. You may be surprised what you...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreIāve been eating here for 25 years. My son was born December 1, 1999 during my pregnancy. I would drive all the way from the antelope Valley all the way down to this pizza place and I patronize this my whole pregnancy I had to have this pizza it was the best pizza I ever tried in California however, today during my trip here I ordered a salad and I asked for extra tomato And he said he cannot even charge me for extra tomato. He has to follow the rules so I have to leave with my salad Dry. They only gave a handful of tomatoes inside the salad and hardly any carrots that go into the salad. It was basically a beer salad when asking for extra tomatoes he said he canāt do it. Iām in a restaurant. I have to drive all the way back to Lancaster right now hungry and unsatisfied. Iām never coming back to this pizza place ever again after 25 years. Iām done. I guess I have to fly to New York and get a real pizza after all thatās where the original delicious pizza really is not here in California. They have an attitude in their cocky and they think their pizza is all that when itās not the pizza is not the same as it was 25 years ago thereās a difference itās Dry. I had to order a chicken barbecue slice of pizza for it to taste like something goodbye Monicaās forever. Iām never coming back to the store. Itās rude. The managerās...
