Lucky Bird Chicken is THE place to eat in the Grand Central Market in downtown LA. The Market is great for office workers, tourists and other visitors (it is right across the street from Angel's Flight), and anyone downtown at meal time. Lucky Bird is the only place you should eat it if you are in the Market for a meal.
My wife and I (along with some friends and out-of-towners we bring along from time to time) have eaten at Lucky Bird about 8 or 9 times since we have discovered it. We frequently plan on eating there when are in downtown or somewhere near it. Simply, the fried chicken is the best I have ever had. It is always moist and tender on the inside, and crisp and delicious on the outside. The seasonings that they use make it just perfect. And they have a variety of dipping sauces you can choose from, all delicious.
You can get pieces of chicken or a chicken sandwich and you can't go wrong. But my all time favorite is the chicken and waffle combination. It is a culinary extravagance that you won't forget. Even though the counter has a diner-ish feeling to it (as do all of the food vendors in the Market), I rate Lucky Bird as a top restaurant for good, hearty, and delicious food. and the best fried chicken you will eat that puts the chains whose names you know to shame.
The only downside is that parking can be tight in the parking structure attached to the Grand Central Market and sometimes you need to roam around the Market to find a place to sit, at least at lunchtime. But if you are downtown for any reason, you should go to the Market and eat at Lucky Bird. I think you will surprised at just how excellent it is.
I am getting hungry just thinking about it the chicken and...

It was a thrill to partake on opening day having come in from out of state. I was so impressed with the incredible moist chicken bringing new flavors to a favorite food. The staff was friendly knowledgeable and accommodating and the space was perfect.
I found the price point to be very fair and reasonable given the quality of the food and the downtown location. Highly recommend this new go to destination in LA.
I knew that the chef/owner had trained and worked with some of the most famous and outstanding chefs of our time so I had had high expectations which were totally satisfied. The setting was great as well as customer appreciation was evident from the beginning.
I am a BIG fan of a GREAT chicken sandwich so I found the sandwich to simply amazingly good. I have traveled and tasted a lot of chicken in my time and I loved the moist brined boneless thigh meat, which was incredibly juicy and flavorful. Smoked paprika aioli provided a wonderful smoky, flavorful touch. Home made pickles added the right acid to balance the flavors.
I saw a glimpse of Chef moving carefully and deliberately and I was aware of his caring touch in the food preparation. I WILL RETURN WHENEVER I AM ABLE-- GREAT START TO A GREAT...

I stumbled upon this gem as a lucky accident. I had originally hit DTLA to scope out Howlin’ Rays. I couldn’t bear to stand in that insane line, but I was still desperately craving fried chicken so after a quick Google search I went to Lucky Bird instead.
Everything here is flawless. They serve the juiciest, most tender and flavorful fried chicken I’ve ever had. Without a doubt the BEST biscuits I’ve ever had. If you’re vegetarian, seriously - just go for the biscuits. I don’t understand what they’ve done to accomplish that texture and the depth of flavor. The biscuits truly steal the show. They’re served with a melt in your mouth subtly sweet butter.
I’ve not tried the chicken sandwich yet but that’s priority next time I go there.
Service is lovely and fast. Incredibly generous portions.
This place is everything I’ve ever wanted. I absolutely worship fried chicken but it’s so rare to find a place that makes it with high quality, free-range chicken. I’ve driven 1.5 hours in traffic to come here!
A few things I’d suggest:
I’d love more flavors of hot sauce. Their signature sauce is brilliant but I trust that they could make even more. I like to have different flavors to experiment with throughout a meal. I’d love smaller portion option. Three pieces of chicken is too big for me, two pieces would be perfect. More locations please!...
