We stayed here for a concert at the Torch LA Coliseum. Parking is a fee, but you can get $20 parking at Pershing garage a block and a half away and it's an easy walk past a Starbucks. Other good eats in the area, but a bit pricey. The mall is about a mile away and has good (but also pricey) food options, a target, Nordstrom rack, h&m, and others.
The hotel lobby had a strong chemical smell from cleaning supplies that startled me, but otherwise the hotel was fine on that point.
Rooms were quiet and comfortable. Bathroom was clean. A tiny bit of mold in spots, but it's America, so you're asking for too much if you want immaculate from a hotel. Nobody even keeps their house that clean unless they're Oprah and can afford hired help. I deeply struggle with the quality of most American hotels (even at $500/night, most are loud dumps), but this was comparable to our Italy hotels in terms of comfort, maintenence, quietness, politeness of service. The beds are more comfortable than Doubletree Hilton with a padded comfort layer on the mattress and mattresses that were in good shape, not completely shot like at Doubletree. I slept pretty well. A/C worked well, fridge wasn't a loud nuisance I had to unplug (which is pretty odd because I always have that issue), and the safe was bolted down and at about eye level for a 5' person in my non-accessible room. Coffee maker, and bathrooms were clean. There was a tiny rattle all night long in our room, but really it was so negligible and the rest of the room so comfortable that I can't even complain about it. I didn't hear anyone in the hall on a Saturday night and Sunday morning, and only heard other flushings inside the bathroom space itself (which had a real, solid-core, proper swing door! Yay, privacy!). Maybe it just wasn't busy because of labor day or it's a business traveler's hotel and it was empty, but the noise insulation was really good even on the windows, so I think it's just a properly built hotel made for SLEEPING as a hotel ought to be! I will stay here again if in the area.
Breakfast is a fee, buffet, about $30 at the time of posting and they really don't want you to see what's available before deciding to eat there. Vee's is a few blocks away and tasty if you're looking for other options (better price, too). There's also an IHOP and Dennys nearby if that's more your jam.
Be warned tho that you will probably drive through skid row on the way here with standard maps navigation. If extreme poverty makes you sad to see, find a different route...
Read moreBEDBUG problem - BEAWARE: I had a night reservation at this location and in the morning I wake up with bedbug bites. At first I thought I was allergic to sth but then I started to search the pattern of the rash (I had 3 red bumps in a row on my leg) and contacting my doctor I found out that it was a bedbug bite - later the day it started to be itchy and I was in pain.. I talked to someone at the hotel later in the day (Mia B.) and of course she didn’t accept. I paid around $400 for a room which was terrible and I had a bedbug bite. You can imagine how I freaked out… we throw away most of our stuff; financially, physically, mentally I and my family were affected. Our vacation has basically been ruined. Mia Benhajali hoped me to feel better soon (!) and didn’t take any action or follow up. Terrible approach, terrible hotel, terrible customer service. I am a Hilton Honors member and this was the first worst experience. I came back to my home and still worried about bringing them in my home. I spent extra money to buy steam cleaner, bedbug repellents, sprays etc to be on the safe side. Terrible terrible experience… I genuinely hope no one goes through this, I am mentally affected and cannot even concentrate on my work. I hope at least I can get my money back from this hotel as they owe me more than that.. PLEASE, even this is your last hotel option- stay outside, in your car or any other place just don’t stay in this hotel unless you don’t care BEDBUG problem. I am a quality assurance engineering manager and I can guarantee you that there is no quality in this hotel, no quality in customer relations, no quality in customer safety, satisfaction… I will escalate this unfortunate incident, post through social media as much as I can and I will make sure that people are aware. Additionally will take legal action as needed to this hotel, to the person who contacted me and made me feel worse with her communication. I have never felt so worried in my life and I don’t think that I could stay in a hotel again. Shame on you! Note: I have reached out to Hilton, they neither help nor took the responsibility. Hotel store front manager has the worst communication style I have ever seen in a hotel and kept saying same things. I am sorry for the people that will stay at this hotel as there is a big problem that...
Read moreLovely art deco building built around 1923. The venue has a ton of likeability and history. It has a slight problem working out what it is now. It reeks of style and formality yet the staff at the check-in counter wear TeeShirts? The rooms are from the 1920s. Original bathroom doors that were perhaps wood varnish are now painted white. Terrazzo bathroom floors now titled over. Original art deco bathroom tiles now with a white finish. Etc etc. As a person who loves art deco I'm happy the place has kept rather than ripped out and replaced with modern items..maybe in a few years the doors can again be beautiful wood varnish... The possibility will always exist as the door remains...I found the main bedroom to be of a high standard. The bed was very comfortable. The lights worked, the tv, fridge and coffee maker were clean and functional. Highly recommend you stay...please allow enough time to wander the hotel and ask to see the ballrooms. The original pool is quite a knockout...would loved to have seen it in the 1920s ...The bar is very beautiful and the room it stands in is very imposing. Cocktail drinks range from $14 upwards. I didn't find the bar staff to be engaging. They do their job but small talk lacking .go with friends if you want to talk otherwise have a drink in your room or visit the many bars down the street. We didn't eat at the hotel. Most of the eateries in the hotel were under construction or simply closed when we thought about time for eating. We found plenty of cafes and pubs, restaurants within a 10 minute walk from the hotel. The hotel doesn't have room service, I think you can get something at the bar, but it wasn't advertised..never saw a menu, but thinking back I did see a person having something at the bar or maybe they brought their own ..who knows? So if you love art deco, please stay a few days or a night.. unfortunately it's much of a museum now rather than a functional hotel that opened in 1923, but it's history that's fun to walk around..like walking around the Queen Mary docked in...
