I was at the drive-thru just before 1 AM Friday morning. I think I ate the best chilaquiles I've ever had--flavor, texture, & freshness. Considering I can't have eggs, which is part of the amazingness of this dish, I ordered it without them and it was so good!
The reason I gave it a 4 instead of a 5 is because the service is not great:
The menu is off to the right but you pull up to the left. There was a car blocking my view of the menu so when I asked the cashier questions over the speaker, she told me to pull up to the 1st window.
When I pulled up, I tried being personable and nice but the lady was just not having it. She was in a bad mood and didn't care about providing customer service. But I'm sure she knows the food is the bomb and it's the only place open 24 hours nearby so people are gonna come and will deal with it.
When I pulled up to the 2nd window, I waited for at least 7 minutes without anyone so much as acknowledging that I was there. The windows have a reflective material on them so you can't even tell what's happening. I almost left but didn't want to waste my money. I'm glad I didn't!
Again, even though I had this list of reasons why it's not 5 stars, the food is really good! They got my order right, which can be an issue when people dgaf. I also had a fresh tamal de piña (pineapple tamale) that stayed hot in the wrapper for my 30 minute drive home. I nearly burnt my mouth but it...
Read moreNearly thirty years ago I think I had an unmemorable snack here-- at night? Back in the nineties when the parking lot was a drug market? I avoided it until Sept 23 I was on the way home and stopped to get the Ant her basic burrito (bean and rice, no cheese, occasional chix) because a)drive through and b) Mexican drive through and c) I was nearby when I realized the Ant needed grub . Very efficient service and I decided to get a hard shell potato taco -- it came in an order of three so I thought well that's a bit much but maybe the Ant can help. The first sign as I drove back east that this was better than I was expecting was the thin, flavorful, and perfectly salted chips. I don't eat this delicacy unless they are really good and these were. They didn't survive the ride home. Once home, I was absolutely stunned, being an Eastside L A Mexican food chauvinist, to find that the papas tacos were flatly some of the best I ever had. Shocking! The second superlative westside Mexican food experience in as many trips west of Western. A reminder to keep an open mind because stomach is always open. Suffice to say the Ant didn't get any potato tacos...and I ate the SECOND bag of chips, a very considerate touch by Lucy, and obviously meant...
Read moreLucy’s Drive-In is a solid spot if you’re looking for something quick, convenient, and satisfying. One of the best things about it is how fast everything comes out. Whether you’re grabbing a meal in the middle of the day or late at night, they keep things moving without sacrificing quality.
The menu has so many options, which makes it easy to find something no matter what you’re craving. They’ve got all the classics—tacos, burritos, burgers, and more—but what really stood out to me was the variety. There are even good options for vegetarians, which is always a plus at a drive-in spot.
Another huge perk? It’s open all the time, so whether it’s an early morning bite or a late-night craving, you can count on Lucy’s to be there. Parking was also fast and safe, which is a big deal when you’re grabbing food on the go. No unnecessary stress—just pull in, grab your food, and you’re set.
Overall, it’s a reliable, no-fuss spot with great convenience and plenty of choices. Definitely a go-to when you need something...
