Maria's Bakery Inc — Restaurant in Los Angeles

My husband and I ordered a cake to celebrate our 25th anniversary. Everything seemed okay until the day we went to pick up our cake. One of the “bakers” was at a table to the right, in the main area where customer’s are, out in the open. She had a huge bowl filled with what looked like 500 raw eggs, and she was using her bare hands to separate the yolks. Again, using her bare hands, and she was wearing rings and other jewelry. She had her whole hand dipped in the bucket it was very unsanitary! They only take cash at this place so the cashier took our payment and then used that same bare hand that she took cash with to write a anniversary message on the cake. We took our cake and got half way home but the more I thought about the whole situation I decided to call the store and express my concern. The cashier answered and told me that the eggs they were working on were for a future batter. After that I was done! I did not want to risk getting sick so I took my cake back. I know this review is long but, people need to know that Maria’s bakery is not sanitary. Especially now with the pandemic they should take extra precautions and use gloves. Fantastic service as always, we have been ordering cakes for our yearly birthdays 4 times a year for 15 years. We wont go anywhere else! The only way this place can improve is by accepting debit or credit cards. They would get way more business but i understand that they would have to pay more in taxes as a business accepting credit and debit card transactions. Just rememeber if you come here its "CASH ONLY" but worth it. The Cake is always soft and the frosting is always freshly made. I have never had a cake from here that has tasted a day or 2 old vs other places i used to go to.

This is still a wonderful 5 star rating bakery to buy your cake from for any occasion, however they still dont accept Debit Or Credit so remember to bring cash with you and i highly recommend that you call firstbto get the latest pricing on the cakes.

I have been coming to this bakery since I was 15 years old. I know Maria is long gone cause this place had ZERO updates. The floor is old and dirty and pealing, the back counter cabinets are worn and even the table up front is older than I am on in 40s now. It’s sad to see no evolution, no reinvestment, no love or care. The cakes are A+ I recommend all of them but wow the atmosphere and visuals inside are that of an abandoned building. As this is my last visit I hope someday to return and see that the ownership has turned around and some love is shows for this Bakery. Cause the 15 year old in me would love to see it come back into its splendor, Invest in your Bakery before it fades into irrelevance....
