Absolutely fabulous experience.
Despite having travelled much of the world and getting to try lots of authentic Asian cuisine, my meal at Masala 2 will stand out as one of the best I've ever had.
The veggie samosas had a lovely combination of texture - something that can easily be overlooked when it comes to these little pockets of flavour. It caught me off guard in a wonderful way. I literally shook my head in bewilderment while eating them.
For my main course I tried the Aloo Gobi - a personal favourite of mine for which I thought I understood my love for when I ordered it. Turns out I was wrong - I had even more love to give. There was something unique to the way this dish was prepared that made it stand out against any other Indian dish I've ever had. Again, careful attention seemed to be paid to the texture of the dish and not simply the flavour. This added great depth and dimension to the dish.
I ordered some fresh garlic and basil naan on the side which, naturally, didn't disappoint either. Rolled thin and cooked to flaky, tender perfection, this proved to be a most delicious mop worthy of me literally wiping every last drop of sauce left in the bowl.
And as if that weren't enough, the Gulab Jamun put me over the edge. Sweet (but not too sweet), warm and, once again, cooked with excellent attention paid to the texture, sent me into a euphoric state.
The service at Masala #2 was well matched for the food. I felt properly cared for the entire time, engaged in lovely conversation and felt like I was being welcomed into someone's home.
Whether this is your first experience with Indian cuisine or if you've had just about every dish under the sun, you will feel right at home at Masala #2. I left the restaurant so satisfied that I felt the need to walk back to my AirBnB - a 3 mile hike, I might add - just so I could reflect upon and appreciate how utterly over the moon I felt.
Whether you're in LA for work, here with the family on holiday or just passing through, this is an absolute must-experience. Los Angeles is a melting pot of culture and Masala #2 is one of its culinary...
Read moreWe ordered over $200 of takeout recently. We were from out of town and this place is open late so we thought it would be convenient. When we reached to pick up the food we asked for some cut raw onions since that is normal with Indian kababs etc. The person was so rude and just refused to add onions to the order. We asked why and he said "It is not on the menu" We requested that he sell us an onion if this was such a bother and he said "go buy it from the grocery store across the street" This made no sense since why would you show this attitude for a 50 cent item when someone is buying $200+ of your food. We even asked if he was out of onions and he said that he had enough but just cannot sell us any. On reading other google reviews we noticed that he has behaved rudely with others too. This place is a MUST AVOID. I own a high end restaurant too and would NEVER behave like this with my customers. Food was average and nothing spectacular either but with this kind of service how can you run a restaurant business. He claimed he was the owner so one would think he has the ability to provide service and help with such issues. But he was just plain rude and not interested in helping at all. This was an online order else we would have canceled it and walked out. Perhaps that is why he was behaving like this since the order was prepaid.
I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND ANYONE TO GO HERE UNLESS U WANT TO BE...
Read moreNote.. At lot of the people who have bad reviews were done during the pandemic. The owner started his restaurant and less then three weeks later the lockdown began. As restaurants were hit the hardest, he fought to stay open during the roughest time in Restaurant history…and he did! All by himself, working crazy hours alone…and I can say as a top 10 percent google reviewer, that this place is open and thriving and delicious! It is a different style of Indian food, a bit sweet sometimes.. so add some heat if you want…and chock full of great bursts of flavor.
I got to know the owner over the covid lockdown and he is an awesome person and always has accommodated me if I come in person and am respectful of him also.
Salayla’s Review…. This is a sweet spot here in Hollywood. PARKING! OPEN TILL 1am...and the food is awesome ...prices are great and the fare is made the way Americans like it, spiced warm, but not too hot unless you ask for it, yummy masala dishes, and wonderful tea and desserts. It has come to be a favorite! I saw the kitchen through the swinging doors and it is clean... Cheers on that! Oh…best Nan I have ever...
