When did McDonalds become so ableist??
I was the only customer waiting in line. I stood at the cashier for a few minutes until an employee made eye contact and said he’d be right with me. He stepped away, and I looked at the menu. From the far left corner near the drive-thru window, a supervisor looked up and called out, “Have you ordered yet?”
There was no greeting, no welcoming tone. I said, “No, not yet,” and she pointed at the kiosk and said, “You have to order there.”
I asked, “Oh, so I have to order at the kiosk now? Is this a new policy?” She snapped, “Yes, it’s policy now. We’re not taking orders. You have to order there.” Her tone was harsh, as if I was difficult for asking. I thought maybe something had changed recently, but her attitude was uncalled for.
She told another employee to help me. I thanked him but waved him away because I wanted to try ordering myself. I had forgotten my glasses and was struggling to see the screen, which is why I went to the cashier. I didn’t think I needed to explain my vision issue just to be treated with respect.
Another employee saw I was struggling and kindly stepped in. She seemed embarrassed and apologized when I asked why the supervisor was rude.
After placing my order, I calmly told the supervisor there was no need to speak like that. Before I finished, the manager, Gerson, interrupted and defended her. He said, “She wasn’t screaming at you. I saw everything,” though he was seated across the restaurant and not near us.
I asked if there was an actual kiosk-only policy. He first said no, then changed to yes but refused to show or explain. When I pressed further, he canceled my order and said he didn’t have to give a reason.
If the supervisor had simply explained the change respectfully, this would not have happened.
Gerson could have handled it with care but chose to shut me down. The second I needed help, I was treated like an inconvenience. I hope visible disabilities, like people in wheelchairs, the blind and such are treated better than those with non-visible...
Read moreI have ordered food at this McDonald's several times as it is in close proximity to where I live. And since I love McDonald's food, even though it has been problem after probx in the definition of insanity with this establishment! Or should I say Albert Einstein's definition of insanity! Anyways I like to order online because my money is in the bank therefore I use my card. Yeah well not the brightest idea with this store location! They suck! They withdraw the money and then the manager will tell you this are is no order showing up in their system. Even though you have a confirmation number from their app and from your bank, even though you can show them on your phone where they withdrew the money from your account successfully and you have been charged meaning the money is gone and McDonald's now has it in their possession, get the joyful manager still claims that you are not in their system so she tells you to call the bank. So you called the bank and they tell you that McDonald's withdrew the money from your account successfully! you can do it right in front of her! You could actually probably let her talk to your bank her self. Still guess what? Hum you're not in the system! Man I sure wish some people would just kerpoof to the planet moroniviĺle! But other than that... the manager has just been grand! As long as Grand is equivalent to a...
