🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 Title: A Flavor Fiesta with a History Lesson!
Let me start by saying: If you pass by Mex Peru Gypsy and think, “Hmm, looks like your average beans-and-rice joint,” TURN AROUND and walk back in because you’re about to miss out on a full-on flavor explosion (with a side of charm and ceviche)!
We started with the ceviche, and WOW — it slapped harder than my grandma when I said Taco Bell makes good Mexican food. Zesty, fresh, and full of that “I could eat this for breakfast” energy. Then came the quesadilla, which was so cheesy and delicious it made me rethink all my past quesadilla experiences like they were dry reheated tortillas from a sad office potluck.
Now, the beans and rice. I’ll be honest: when they hit the table, I gave them the side-eye. They looked plain. Bland. The background singers of the meal. BUT NO. They were the Beyoncé of the plate — flavorful, perfectly seasoned, and seriously comforting. Like, “I want these beans and rice to tuck me in at night” comforting.
And the cherry on top? The owner himself came over, gave us a warm welcome, and shared the incredible story of how this gem has been open since 1982! That’s over 40 years of deliciousness, folks. You can taste the heart and history in every bite. He was so friendly, I wanted to invite him to my next family BBQ.
We’ll definitely be back — with friends, with family, maybe even with a marching band. Mex Peru Gypsy, you’ve got a fan for life.

Read moreI unfortunately did not have a great experience here. I placed a phone order and when the person on the other end picked up the phone, I was expecting a welcoming greeting with the name of the establishment or something, instead, I just heard "Hello?"...so I was confused as to whether or not I was calling the right place. I asked to place an order and the person was just very un-welcoming, very bland, almost rude. I got their Tallarines Verde con Carne Asada that they claim is "top sirloin Angus" and an agua de Maracuya. The total was about $32 which I thought was too expensive for spaghetti with pesto sauce. Their location is in downtown in the fashion district so parking is already horrible. The actual establishment is a very small hole in the wall where as soon as you cross the entrance you're already at their very limited counter seating. When I finally got my order and was ready to eat, I saw that the "top sirloin" was a very flat piece of meat that was tough to chew on, if cooked correctly the texture shouldn't be tough but instead a perfect amount of chewiness (not too tough, not too soft), and it should be a thicker cut. It also lacked flavor. Their Tallarines (which is basically spaghetti) with pesto sauce also lacked flavor. The Maracuya tasted a bit bland as well, as if it had been diluted. Overall, I'm already discouraged from returning to that place based on this experience, but maybe their forte lies on...
Read moreMex Perú Gipsy delivered a great lunch experience! From the moment I walked in, the service was top-notch. The staff was friendly and attentive, and the chef/owner personally took the time to recommend dishes, which made the experience feel even more special. It’s always a good sign when the person behind the food is so passionate and involved!
I went with the Lomo Saltado, and it did not disappoint. The dish was bursting with flavor—the beef was tender and perfectly cooked, while the veggies and sauce added just the right balance of savory goodness. The fries soaked up all that delicious sauce, making every bite satisfying. You can tell the ingredients were fresh and that a lot of care went into the preparation. I had an horchata for the drink and it was very good. One of the better horchatas I've had.
Yes, the prices are a bit on the higher side, but considering the quality of the food and the level of service, I think that it’s totally worth it. The portions were generous, and the flavors were authentic, making it a standout spot. In a neighborhood where good food options can be hit or miss, Mex Perú Gipsy definitely stands out as one of the best places to eat.
Whether you're craving authentic Peruvian flavors or just looking for a great meal with friendly service, this place is a winner. I’ll definitely be coming back to explore more...
