My friends and I all live in Los Angeles. We've done all of Escape Room LA's rooms, both in-person and virtual. This last experience we had with them was the worst and they have completely lost our business.
We had booked a virtual room two weeks in advance. They're supposed to send a Zoom link ten minutes prior. Our room was supposed to start at 2pm, link to be sent at 1:50. After 20 minutes, we had not heard from them - I had tried to call, only got voicemail, and emailed twice. I finally got a phone call from John, apologizing, that the host lost internet service and they could send a link now if we still wanted to play. (Keep in mind - if the attendees are running late, there is no flexibility - there are no refunds and you won't get to play.) So I asked if this would be a courtesy game given that they ran late and we had all been waiting for 20 minutes (also, I know Internet issues happen, but there is no excuse for not calling us sooner.)
I had checked with my group and they said they still wanted to play. I then emailed John, told him we would still play but that we were disappointed it would be 30 minutes late at this point and would leave our feedback. Not only did he not send the link, but he also canceled our game and sent an email telling me to "go ahead and write a nasty review then".
I have worked in customer service and this was by far one of the most unprofessional people I've ever come across. When you have a business, it's understandable that things happen, but you have to own your mistakes and then do the right thing by your paying customers. At no time was I nasty about this. We have spent so much money with them over the last four years. I'm sad we will never do business with them again. I'm writing this review now so other people are aware of how Escape Room LA chooses to operate under a pandemic when people are just trying to find...
Read moreI went to Escape Room LA twice in one day (7/9/22) to celebrate my birthday. We did The Pyramid room and Atlantis. The rooms were well put together and it was good for my larger groups cause there were multiple puzzles you could work on at the same time.
We had a great experience with The Pyramid room. The game master was engaging and we got lucky with some guessing so after we escaped, he offered to explain the puzzles we didn't quite fully understand. I left excited to come back for the next one!
BUT... later in the evening, we came back for Atlantis. The game master had a bad attitude from the very beginning. She glared at us as we walked through the front door, she was rude the entire time, and made the experience unanimously awkward & uncomfortable. She never told us if/how we could ask for a hint and it wasn't until near the very end when I found her standing in the first room on her phone. When we finally asked for a hint, she refused with a snarky remark. Compared to all other escape rooms I've done in the past, she was the WORST game master by a long shot. We escaped, no thanks to the host. I understand people have bad days but looking at the past reviews, it doesn't seem like this horrible service is a one off. I think everyone that had their experience ruined by this lady should get a FULL REFUND. She made the overall experience a waste of money and a waste of time.
If we didn't have such a great time doing The Pyramid room earlier in the day, I would've rated this place zero stars if I could. She was the BIGGEST DOWNER to my birthday celebration and if I had known we were going to have such a horrible host, I would not have chosen to come back. I wouldn't return to this establishment unless I could be guaranteed that she wasn't our...
Read moreI love when escape rooms really place you in the setting, and this did that for us. My husband and I did The Black Dragon room with just us two, and we were only a couple of puzzles away from completing. Not bad, imo! It's very nonlinear, which I love because he and I both get into our own zone with certain puzzles, and neither of us like to stand around watching the other have all the fun. The small details in this room make a BIG difference. There were several puzzles I had not seen before in my previous experiences, and this was room 35 for me. I am quite sure a team of 3 or 4 could complete this. It's challenging, but don't overthink, and you'll be fine. Our game host was John, and he was great! We didn't ask for any hints, and he gave us only one minor hint to kick us off, so I loved that he just left us to challenge ourselves and wasn't overbearing with unsolicited hints. That said, there's a very minor live actor component to it, but it really added to the vibe. His energy and humor were pretty cool. Oh, and there's a cute mini-puzzle experience in the lobby while you wait. ❤️
As far as the area: Street parking is scarce (it's a downtown area, so of course), but there's a small lot right next door, and multiple other parking options other than street parking. It's close to lots of other stores (convenience stores,...
