Read moreI’m a bit conflicted in writing this review - I really wanted to like this hotel and had high hopes for our stay. All of the staff we encountered were professional, courteous, and pleasant for the most part, but little things just kept adding up over the duration of our 2-night stay that ended up frustrating my partner and me to the point of no return. Let me explain.
While we were driving to the hotel, I received an email stating that our reservation at Cara Cara that night had been cancelled due to inclement weather. After checking in, we stopped by the restaurant to inquire about the situation; however, the host had no idea what we were talking about. He literally had to take a photo of my cancellation email to text it to another coworker, who ended up being as equally confused as he was. Turns out the restaurant was in fact not closing early, so no harm no foul. However, the lack of coordination and miscommunication from the staff was slightly concerning; little did we know it was a premonition of things to come. For example, later that night, we had to make multiple, repeated calls to the front desk for them to bring us ice to our room. Again, not the biggest deal, but bear with me.
On the second day, we left our water bottles outside our rooms for them to be refilled/replaced (as instructed by the valet who helped take our bags to our room the day prior), but never received any replacements. We then had to make an additional call for more water. Another slight annoyance was housekeeping’s continued knocks at the door, even though we told them we wouldn’t need turn-down service (they must have come to the door knocking at least 3 times). A little later that afternoon, we ordered Uber Eats, and what should have been a simple drop off to our door became anything but. The front desk ended up intercepting our food from the delivery driver and calling our room to ask if they should take it to our door, to which we accepted. We waited about 15 minutes, took a look outside our door, but the food wasn’t there. It took us another additional call to the front desk before the food finally got delivered to us. That night, I was getting so fed up with calling the front desk that I ended up searching for an ice machine, but couldn’t find one. Back to the front desk I went.
On our third and final day, we checked out and left our bags with the front desk in order to walk to a brunch spot nearby. While we were at brunch, they tried putting our luggage in my car, but since I left my car in valet mode (which locks the trunk), they were unable to put it inside the trunk. When we got back to the valet we discovered that instead of leaving our luggage at the front desk they ended up stuffing everything into the back seat, scuffing, marring, and dirtying the white leather interior of my car. This ended up being the final straw for me and really pissed me off, because now I ended up having to spend time cleaning the back seat with my partner when this whole situation could have been prevented. To add insult to injury, some parts of the leather were actually scratched and we were unable to remove them after trying to wipe it down.
To sum it up, nearly our entire experience at this establishment left us feeling like we wished we could just do everything ourselves. I’m not sure if the issue comes down to a lack of training/critical thinking skills, or if the staff is just absent minded/doesn’t truly care, but each and any of the seemingly simple things that we needed throughout our trip felt so unnecessarily complicated and such a struggle honestly. Every single little thing just ended up being harder than it needed to be. This place is such a bad value, especially for the egregious prices they charge. To Proper Hotel - you’re a five-star establishment, do better.
We most definitely...
Read moreThe property & rooms are stunning, my wife and I + our families stayed here during our wedding weekend a few weeks ago. We booked four rooms total, including two of their suites, which were both spacious and beautifully designed. Unfortunately, it was like pulling teeth to book these rooms to begin with. Given it was for our wedding & we were also looking to possibly do a rooftop buyout for our rehearsal dinner, we reached out to their event coordinator, Amber to discuss booking. She wasn't the most quick to reply, which we didn't hold against her given this was around the time of the LA fires. However, when she did get back to us, she lead by telling us she wouldn't be able to get us any sort of discount on the rooms, which is not even why we reached out to her in the first place-- we just wanted to discuss logistics and get the rooms booked. We ended up just booking through the front desk, where the person who helped us out was seemingly in a bad mood/very short with us, but eventually helped us get sorted and ironically, let us know that our rooms were available at a discounted rate, which he applied. We didn't bother following up about any buyouts and just booked our rehearsal dinner elsewhere. Prior to our stay, our wedding photographer called the hotel to ask about photography permissions, which again, was met with rudeness by the front desk. Totally ok that they don't allow any photography, but as a couple who works in hospitality, it's wild to call a hotel where we are spending thousands of dollars and to be consistently met with so much attitude. Everyone we spoke to, just seemed annoyed to help us. Final straw that has led us to write this review, was being told when we were checking in that a daily food + beverage credit would be applied to our final invoice. Upon checking out, there was no credit applied and when we inquired about it on the spot, they applied one of them, but not all of them, for each day, to each room. We have since been going back and forth via email which, has again, been a slow exchange on their part and as it stands, we are still sitting on credits owed - not really sure what the point is of telling us about these "credits", if they are not going to be honored/applied automatically. Very much a bummer, because this hotel is such a vibe and we loved our rooms (Valet team was also incredible and so helpful throughout our stay), but the service & communication from the hotel staff was really disappointing. We wouldn't stay here again or recommend to any of our...
