This was our first time at Pann's restaurant. We drove from Long Beach to come here because we heard it was a 50s restaurant. Which it was because it was built in 1958. But we were expecting it to be a little bit more like the fifties. Like maybe a jukebox and pictures of stars from that era like Elvis Presley, Paul anka, Bobby rydell etc pictures of hot rods, and the interior maybe turquoise the colors that were popular back in those days. But we find nothing resembling the fifties and just every so often you would hear a couple of notes from a 50's song on the radio but it was so busy and so crowded in there that you couldn't even really hear the music but that was about the only sense of it being a 50s diner. Everyone in there all the help and even customers that we talked to everyone was very nice. The 50s were such a nice era so innocent unlike today. Anyway the food that I had was excellent!! I ordered the two pork chops mashed potatoes and gravy coleslaw and biscuit. I love pork chops. But I've discovered through the years at different restaurants you don't want to order pork chops. They're usually tough you can't cut them let alone chew them. Their pork chops were terrific, they were tender ,juicy and tasted super good. The mashed potatoes and gravy were very good. And the coleslaw was so delicious. It had pineapple in it which made it a little bit sweeter, and it was nice and juicy. That too is something else I never order in a restaurant because it's always dry and a little on the sour side. So I was so happy to finally find coleslaw that tasted so good I could have licked the bowl. And I'm glad I ordered it because it was like a process of elimination I was having mashed potatoes and gravy so I didn't want fries or onion rings or any of the other side orders that they were offering so I opted for the coleslaw expecting not to like it but I loved it. And the biscuit it was not your typical canned biscuit. It was homemade and fresh and so good with butter and honey on it. My boyfriend ordered country fried steak with gravy and eggs and biscuit. He didn't care for the country fried steak it was rubbery he said. So the manager was very kind and asked me him if he'd like to order something else. So he ordered the pork chops because I told him how good they were. His first pork chop was really good then he cut into the second one and it was not cooked in the middle. So the manager had them cooked over again to make sure that they were cooked all the way through. Both of mine were cooked through I had no problem with mine at all. I think the problem with his order was just that they're so busy and they were trying so fast to get the orders out plus they closed at 3:00 so I think the cooks were just in too much of a hurry. But they made it right. We both took leftovers home and reheated them and had them for dinner. And they tasted just as good if not even better that night for dinner. They even did not charge him for his meal. They charged me for mine but then mine was perfect. The hospitality there of the workers and the management and the way they handle their business is superb!! We both will definitely be going there again!! THANKS to everyone who works there. And kudos to the lady that put up with us and waited on us. Try it...

I’m still furious. My family of five — my wife and our three kids — went to Pann’s hoping for a classic LA breakfast while visiting from out of town. Instead, we walked out feeling disrespected, targeted, and cheated.
Our server, Angie P., quietly added an automatic gratuity to our bill. That charge is clearly reserved for parties of six or more — and we were five. She never told us. Didn’t ask. Just slipped it in, like we wouldn’t notice. We didn’t until after paying. That’s not an oversight — that’s a choice.
When I went to the manager, he was shockingly dismissive. No apology. No ownership. Just a half-shrug and, “I’ll talk to her.” As if this was no big deal. He said he’d take the tip off and told me to “call next week if it’s not fixed.” Really? That’s how you handle a blatant, shady charge?
This wasn’t just a mistake — it felt deliberate, and yes, racially motivated. A Black family walks in, you assume we won’t question the bill, and tack on a charge we didn’t earn? That’s how you treat people?
The food? Cold. Bland. Forgettable. The table was sticky. Angie acted like we were a burden, not customers. We sat there trying to enjoy a rare moment as a family — and instead left disgusted and humiliated.
I’ve eaten at greasy spoons, fine diners, and everything in between. I’ve never felt more unwanted at a restaurant in my life. This wasn’t just bad service — it was a slap in the face.
Shame on Pann’s. You lost more than a customer. You lost a family’s respect. And now, you’ve earned a review that’s going everywhere — because people...
Read moreFirst and foremost I want to say that the staff here are very kind and attentive. And this has nothing to do with our service here. That part was just right. Came here during a family visit. I was very impressed with how fast and efficient they were. They definitely have an effective system in place to be able to accommodate tons of guests and quickly. This place is packed! However, don’t be intimidated by the line. My husband ordered chicken and waffles and I ordered a pancake plate with hashbrowns, eggs and bacon. We were disappointed at the food. The fried chicken was cold and the batter was soggy. My husband said that the waffle was so-so. To their defense, I can understand how some food can be neglected when they have that many people to feed like they do. Pan’s is the place to be, especially after Sunday Church. However, because we don’t have the ability to give it a second try, this review is solely based on a one time visit. I’m sure they’re pretty on point most days if they have a 4.6 star rating. The hash browns were perfect in my opinion, the pancakes have too much vanilla in it for my tasting. A tad bit less and it would’ve been great. It’s way too loud in their for me. It’s pretty chaotic in their with all the cooking you hear. I don’t mind loud noises but dang, it was almost too much for me. To be fair, loud noises are my Achilles heel so, it could very much have just been me. If we could would we give this another try in another day? Yes. It’s definitely worth...
