Philz Coffee — Restaurant in Los Angeles

Came here for the first time to this Philz location around 1:45 pm last Sunday on Halloween day!

Ordering experience When I arrived, was only 1 person ordering in front of me, and about 6 customers to the right waiting for their drinks. A total of 3 staff members were working that day (1 at the front taking orders, and 2 baristas making drinks).

My interaction with the staff member who took my order and the barista who made my drink were wonderfully pleasant! I was honestly surprised by how genuine and friendly they seemed. I could tell it was really busy on Halloween day with all the in person/mobile orders coming in, yet despite how busy they were, they still seemed cheerful and happy. I really appreciated that!

The drink I always order a medium iced mint mojito with almond milk - sweet and creamy is how I like it. The barista who made my drink did a wonderful job--very consistent with other locations! When he called my name to pick up my drink, he even asked me to try it to see if any adjustments needed to be made. While I declined the offer, I appreciated how he asked (Philz used to do this all the time, but I understand some locations have stopped due to the pandemic!).

Overall - would definitely come again! Not sure about how parking works though, and I have to confess that it was quite scary walking along sunset blvd to get there as there are sadly lots of homeless people live along the streets. I just wish there were more Philz locations between Hollywood and Santa Monica... anyway I recommend giving this place a try! I hope the next time I come here again the interactions and drink is just...

None of my Philz reviews are objective. As a longtime San Franciscan, I have been going to Philz since before it took over the world :-) I am in SoCal for a short-term gig, so I have been visiting the Philz stores in the area.

While many of the newer locations may be fancier than the original, the coffee and staff never disappoint.

Over the years, depending on where I have lived, I have made it a point to get to know the baristas as they are always interested and lovely humans. If you have ever watched a training, they are wicked smart and always send a positive vibe out into the world. Kudos to the staff at all the Philz!

The Hollywood store does not disappoint; excellent staff interaction, an inviting store vibe, and consistent drink prep (Hack: "cinnamon in the Philter").

I usually like this location, but there have been times when the drinks were watered down or didn’t taste like the original recipe. I assumed it was part of the training period, so I let it slide.

But today was unacceptable. The drink I received was clearly not fresh—it wasn’t cold, the ice was practically melted, and it looked like it had been sitting out for a while. That alone was disappointing.

Then when I asked for a remake, I was served a cup full of whipped cream with some mint on top—no exaggeration. It was completely off. I ended up drinking nothing but cream, and it made me nauseous. Even after I asked them to remove the cream and add more coffee, the damage was done.

This wasn’t just a small mistake—it felt careless and honestly disrespectful to customers who expect quality and consistency.
