☆stumbled upon this little shop by chance, super happy i did though!! i thought i'd stay maybe 20minutes, but almost an hour had passed when i looked at the time! time well spent though, as this place was fantastic! ☆would love to save up a little extra money to circle back for some of the high end oddities, but there's plenty lovely delights for those of us on tighter budgets too :) i picked up a rad enamel pin and some looseleaf tea for $30. (however, if i had $3000 to spare, i dont know if i am strong enough to have resisted taking home a taxidermy hyena). they also have some merch for the shop itself for sale, which is always a fun way to support local businesses! ☆the space is small, but not cramped, and very well utilized! every second or third look around, you'll see something new. the vibes were super welcoming, so don't be afraid to drop in! just please be mindful of the more fragile wares, and be sure to use the hand sanitizer they provide before touching stuff ☆i hope all the staff is as pleasant and knowledgable as mark (hope i heard/spelled their name right!), since they were awesome to chat with! they gave me a bonus tea recommendation which i'll be sure to hunt down, let me know all about one of the artists featured in the shop (fiona parkinson), and even chatted about music a little bit. thanks again for everything! :) ☆overall, a little hidden gem of a shop that any fans of the unusual (or curious passerbys) should...
Read moreIf your tastes tend toward the gnostic and/or profane, few stores will satisfy your itch as competently as Memento Mori. The staff is pleasantly stoic, helpful when needed and unobtrusive when not. The concept of a "hard-sell" is unnecessary considering the nature of the goods, and likely anathema to the sensibilities of owner and staff.
You come here for something darkly unique that you won't easily find anywhere else. Other places of MM's ilk (Hyaena and Dark Delicacies in Burbank, and, to a lesser extent, Gold Bug in Pasadena), may all represent variations on a theme, but they have their own nuances. Leaving aside the fact MM is a short walk from my residence, it's my favorite of the bunch.
My only demerit is for the shop's somewhat diminished hours of operation. Still, considering the store's context (they sell creepy things that aren't generally routine purchases to a demographic that generally avoids the sun) and the neighborhood's context (a coffee place nearby doesn't open until 8:30am, a vegan cinnamon roll something or other across the street doesn't open until 11am, and a breakfast spot for gentleman around the corner opens according not to a schedule but simply the whims of its owner), the hours are both perfectly understandable and practically de rigueur this neck of the woods. Just make sure to...
Read moreI've heard about Memento Mori shop in LA from friends & recently saw one of their ads on social media that sparked curiosity. Their website is caters to wide range interests in crystals, decorative figurines and wall mounted art that's affordable. I came across this beautiful Blue Onyx Cat. The affordable price made me skeptical so I took a chance and made a first time purchase. Living in NYC, I thought shipping would take up to a full week but it arrived, carefully packaged, a few days later without additional expedited shipping charges. Im so glad bought it. It's beautiful, well weighted & certainly worth slightly more than I paid.
This shop is the real! Now that I know they sell quality items at their shop, I'm comfortable buying more and will definitely visit the shop next...
