Great place to stay if you like filthy overpriced dumps. Despite the propaganda videos and sharing economy and "subscription housing" (whatever that is) bs and nonsense, this is a third rate HOSTEL (see their listings on every hostel booking site on the internet). Go to any hostel in the world charging anywhere from $3 to $25/night and you will at least get some type of breakfast, whether it's cereal, fruit, or even a soggy bagel. Not only does this place offer nothing for the inflated nightly rate they charge, but the rude, unprofessional, and ignorant management staff acts like they're doing you a favor by providing toilet paper and hand soap in the dirty and smelly bathrooms (both of which frequently ran out while I was there). The rooms, bathrooms, and halls at the Dormshare look and smell like they haven't been cleaned in months, despite the efforts of the overworked and unpaid volunteer staff (seriously some of them were working 12+ hour shifts). One of the managers (who looks like she'd be homeless if she weren't leeching off of other people's free labor and rent) was loudly criticizing guests in the lobby one day for having the audacity to expect basic customer service in "a place they're only paying 40 bucks a night for." Leave it to a delusional freeloading millennial to say with a straight face that charging $1200 - $1500 a month for a bed in a cramped filthy dorm is "affordable housing." While there were a few guests that seemed normal and professional, the majority looked like they had just left a halfway house. The other reviewers that have pointed out that the only "shared" amenities here are the garbage left behind by previous guests are correct, as is their nasty and defensive attitude when anyone complains about something, no matter how valid the complaint. I know the housing options in LA are tough, but if you're on a short trip do yourself a favor and stay in a real, professionally run hostel where you will actually get something for your money. These people are nothing but a bunch of opportunists taking advantage of and making the housing crisis worse. The fact that the city of LA allows them to get away with it is probably one of the reasons the homeless situation is as...
Read moreI was in LA for work and decided to stay an extra night so I could catch the show “Waitress” on tour at the Pantages Theater. I chose this hostel because it was a 5-min walk from the theater and honestly because the whole Podshare idea intrigued me and I wanted to check it out. The space itself is actually quite cool. I love the idea of being able to store bags somewhere during the day if needed (you can do that here even if you’re not staying) as well as have a place you can work during the day. Staff were pretty friendly when I checked in and showed me around the place. I think if you’re staying in LA for a week and do freelance work this would be a great space. That being said, know that it’s basically a giant room that includes kitchen, 8ish beds, work stations, and a bathroom. If you like privacy you’ll hate it here. Personally, I wouldn’t stay again, because even though I knew what I was getting into I had a miserable time sleeping. There were ceiling/wall lights that didn’t turn off until 1 AM, people were making popcorn in the middle of the night, etc. I also felt bad any time I went in the one bathroom because it was the only one and I felt like I couldn’t take much time there. I was going to rate 4 stars but then got home and discovered...I am covered in little red insect bites all over the left side of my body!! They definitely weren’t there before I checked into Podshare last night. Of course I don’t know for sure that I got them there but literally all I’ve done today is leave Podshare and get on a plane home. I guess it’s something to consider if you’re hanging out in a shared space.... EDIT: They were flea bites. I came back covered in flea...
