We had been wanting to visit since it opened and thanks to "Heavy" rain Hilary, we finally got that opportunity. No pictures allowed once you start going through the museum so no cool pics 🤷‍♀️ I'm not sure what I expected but it was a mix of a lot of things including real mummified heads. I could probably spend my ENTIRE day there reading serial killer correspondence. The coroner's files hallway was ....... gruesome. The pictures are not sensored and I love that because it doesn't leave it up to the imagination. It really shows how messed up people are to be capable of doing these things to another human being. In the Black Dahlia hall, you can see her distorted face pretty close up and her guts spilled on the grass where she lay in 2 completely separate halves. But not everything is human, there's a collection of albino and regular taxidermy animals and an array of animals skulls. There's also a room that has a lot of info on the heartless funeral industry, which I think can expand upon but that's probably because I have strong beliefs in the matter. There was a bit about babies and how families dealt with them but I didn't really see anything about how humans see/relate to/deal with death. It's the only thing we're guaranteed in life yet this society pushes it away. Out of sight, out of mind. Regardless, it was a cool experience. Staff was very nice, friendly and offered additional information which I loved. Everyone gave a sense of the type of people I could be friends with, love that. That's including the owner! Dude was super cool.

I’m writing this as a death positive person. I love true crime podcast and I love serial killer documentaries. So all that being said, I’m not shy to death and all that accompanies it. This museum was NOT it. From the moment you walk up the stairs, you’re assaulted with gory and grotesque crime scene photos with no reasoning. They’re not in relation to specific murders or killer, just random shocking photos. This is a theme on the entire second floor. There’s nothing educational or intriguing in their displays. It’s just gore and shock value for 75% of the museum. There was a mortician room that I liked and the whole first floor is mostly skulls, bones and more historic death culture, which I liked but it didn’t make up for the whole second floor. They don’t honor the dead, there are no names to most of the photos (outside of the serial killer specific rooms) which feels disrespectful and predatory. This place is all gore and all shock value with no respect to the dead they’re exploiting. If you want to spend $30 to look at photos of decapitated bodies, rotting bodies, mutilated bodies, and gruesome suicides, then this place is for you. I however regret spending my money and wish they’d rethink what they’re trying to do here. This place should be called the Murder Museum, not the death museum.

Went to LA for my first time. Upon doing some pre- travel research, I found out about this museum of TripAdvisor, with so many good reviews about it, we decided to stop by. Upon arrival, the outside of the place grabs your attention. It is overgrown with ivy, and has a unique entrance sign. We where greeted by two very nice people working inside, they asked us where we where from and we had a nice small talk before going inside. The amount of care put into the exhibits here is amazing. You could spend HOURS reading and studying everything they have. We spent a good 45 minutes inside. They do warn you before you enter, there is ALOT of gore and intense macabre stuff inside the museum, so I warn other people who are reading this and interested in going. There are loads of emotional stuff like funeral related caskets, ie-even a infant casket. So go inside prepared you will be bombarded with death... hence the title of the place! If your in LA, have a macabre interest, or just want something shocking and fun, I highly recommend the Museum of Death.

I don’t usually write out reviews because I honestly need a VERY valid reason to do so. This I feel is a valid one. As someone who’s into true crime and all the things people would think I’m nuts for. I’m not a psychopath. I know that for sure now after going to this place. This place is absolutely one of the most disrespectful places anyone can go to. Before going I’ve heard many good reviews for it, and always wanted to go. In those reviews everyone made it very clear how graphic it is, so I was very much aware of that. That’s not the issue I have with this place. The issue I have is how it was created to basically be a place that has no respect for the dead or the people who they showcase. The first thing you see when you walk in is a hallway dedicated to the black dahlia, one of the most horrific crimes I’ve ever heard of, more specifically her private parts. Then you walk up a staircase that is just plastered with photos of mutilated bodies of real people whose names weren’t even shown, nor their history, just a nameless dead body. That’s just the staircase, throughout the museum you just see more bodies in the worst conditions with no description of the victim. If there is a description it’s just about how brutally they were murdered, or a description that just says “death by suicide,” I find that to be extremely insensitive, especially with this being a museum, it left a bad taste in my mouth and I definitely didn’t get any education from it. The other thing I found to be really unnecessary is the amount of genitalia/nudes posted everywhere. I felt like I was disrespecting the victim by seeing their private parts just right there for the whole world to see as if that wasn’t a real person. I saw others saying the same thing about that so I’m glad to know I’m not the only one that thought it was just disrespectful to the victims. I don’t know I feel like this place was far from educational and definitely inhumane for sure. I’d rather stick to watching true crime where the person presenting the cases actually cares about who the victim was, the person they were on this earth, not just their death. I don’t usually feel uneasy with these things because society has made it such a norm to hear and see horrible things, but I left the museum feeling so sad for all the victims in there who are just showcased like circus animals. I also feel horrible for any family members who may or may not know how their loved one is being portrayed in a place like this. If this place can take ANY advice, please be more considerate of the ones you chose to showcase, tell us their story, who they were, and have some empathy for what was done to them. Some might say “well what did you expect from a place like this?” As much as you’re right, the way people speak of this place, I didn’t think it was created to look like this. I heard this place was created to make you appreciate life more, but that’s far from how I felt after the fact. I felt very sad for how everything was put together to be something so vile towards the dead. I don’t believe a human with a good heart and conscience would feel right setting something up like this. If you feel this place is awesome and perfectly curated, please take a break to heal yourself and look deeply into how you view people. The people who work there were very...

As someone whose seen their fair share of live leak and gore content online I cannot over state that I am not the kind of person to clutch their pearls at the sight of any grotesqueness. My issue with this place isn't really on the content, when you come in you will see gore and lots of it, if you can't take it stay home you know if you can. My issue is with how it's presented. The museum and it's curators seem to revel in it, to crave it, and at points it feels like they point and laugh at it.

There's very little tact or respect given to the deceased and things are presented as if the curators are more like a weird coworker at a minimum wage job they were far too old for showing you gore while saying "wow isn't this super messed up". For lack of a better word the museum feels very very juvenile. There are tragedies covered where there is almost no information given that isn't easily found on the first page of Wikipedia. The curators out of either laziness or not needing to research because of lack of competition in their type of presentation have no interesting insights into the tragedies making a very poor excuse of a so called "museum" there's very little here you can't actually just find on the first five results on Google. Additionally there is absolutely no focus on the victims only on glorification of the perpetrators in almost shrine like rooms, which is very telling of the curators/owner mental state and how little they actually think of what their true value could be here. And selling shirts with faces of mass murderers and profiting in so many different ways off of the victims deaths just really leaves a sour taste in my mouth and once again reinforces how unprofessional and frankly uncaring the curators are over the subject matter they're trying to peddle. There's ways to do what they're doing without coming off as a anti social loser who gets off on mutilated bodies but unfortunately they do not seem to have the capacity to look beyond the superficiality of death and gore and dismemberment, the museum shows no deep truths or makes me feel anything other than frustrated at their lack of decorum or care and of what could have been but isn't.

Please if you own this and happen to read this have some tact, do some actual research so you can actually call yourself a museum and not just a bunch of live leak footage coupled with anecdotes you found on wikipedia, and don't sell t shirts of mass murderers, you should know better and in fact should feel terrible about this.

Any customers thinking of flying in to visit I cannot recommend this unless you also are an uncaring person or a person who doesn't think beyond the superficial and even then I'd recommend you save your cash and just go read the wikipedia page for various mass murders thats all your getting here. If you want a place with a very similar vibe I've found the haunted museum in Vegas was much better at dealing with death with some actual tact and respect and cannot recommend it enough over this trash.

I would give it 0/5 if I could there is almost no redeeming...

This review is based solely on how I felt harassed while visiting. The man in the front who sold the tickets was very nice and friendly. He advised there was a no picture or video recording on your phone policy. I even repeated the instructions back to him so it would show I was being compliant. While going through the exhibit I did receive an important PHONE CALL that i took. There was a female employee who immediately came up to me to inform me that this was not allowed. I did end the CALL as soon I understood this was not acceptable. I also apologized for the error and explained it was urgent matter regarding a medical update and it would not happen again. I then proceeded to move through the rest of the exhibit, the female employee after this point followed me after every single move I made. I went in one location and a minute later she was there. I went into an another area and no kidding a minute or two later she walked into the same space I was. It was so very obvious she was trailing me. I was so uncomfortable. I went to the bathroom which is a single room per person .When I came out the bathroom she must of thought I was idiot and did not see her then go right into same bathroom I just came out of . Keep in mind there are several bathrooms in this building.I ended feeling so awful on how harassed I felt ,I just left the exhibit .I wish in retrospect I had went to the person in charge to let them know bad of experience I had due to an honest mistake, but the way I felt stalked by this employee I just wanted to get out there as soon as possible. As for the time I did get at the exhibit before this terrible employee interaction it definitely is not for the faint of heart. This is truly is a morbid gruesome experience. The pictures are very shocking and disturbing. So read the reviews and make an informed decision and make sure you are willing to be able to stomach what you will see while visiting. Lastly be sure to not use your phone in ANY form while you are in this exhibit. I rarely feel compelled to leave a bad review but I felt I should share my experience here so no one else has to be shunned...
