I really wish I could write a more positive review as I had an an amazing stay here about a year ago but unfortunately, there were some serious service issues which should not happen at a hotel in this category and at this price point. While the hard product is still really posh and I loved my room which I had upgraded using a Globalist Suite upgrade award, service levels just badly need improvement: I had arrived at a very messy time around 10pm on a Friday night and the property likes making a buck both ways with its actual guests and externals so they were hosting a loud and messy Halloween party at the pool deck. So imagine dozens of dressed up drunk and most likely stoned (it’s California after all, as evident from the pot smell in pretty much every corner of the property) twens while I am slogging my three heavy suitcases up to reception. Fine, I expected nothing else on a Friday. But the real problem was with the check in crew: Three guys, mostly just observing the scene and chit chatting, gave me a less than warm welcome, rattling down the meaningless “Thank for being a Hyatt Globalist” spill and confirming my late check out but then COMPLETELY ignore me having to somehow bring up all my luggage to the room. I proceeded to grab myself one of those trolleys even and the guys at receptions clearly noticed this but did anyone offer me a hand or, shock horror, even offered me to bring up the luggage to the room? Nah. Could not be bothered, too much chit chatting to do and clearly purposely avoiding eye contact to not having to offer any assistance. Horrible, really.
And this as a theme that then continued throughout my stay. Service at breakfast (which in itself is still rather nice and a great Globalist benefit) was lacklustre at the least with several incorrect orders taken and making me wait for aaaages for the coffee, then the second correct coffee, then the food and finally getting he the cheque to sign. How often I heard a dishonest “Sorry for that!” from the mostly badly trained and/or completely disengaged staff I can’t count anymore. Cade in point, on the first morning, I had left my room around 9am switching the green “Please clean my room” light on. The housekeeping lady was literally two rooms down in the hallway at the then, saw me leaving and even somehow managed to clean the room opposite of mine which also had the green light on so she must have seen my light. But alas, I come back over 4 hours later after some relaxing time by the rooftop pool ready for an afternoon nap but nope, room not done. This is one of my absolute hotel pet hates and in this case it was very evident that staff could simply not be bothered. I call housekeeping to complain but the lady on the phone is clearly not keen to hear about it and just tells me that her staff is on “lunch break right now” so that I will have to wait a while. Of course that lazy housekeeper is on break now pretty much destroying my carefully planned afternoon. Again, no real apology or proper reaction even to the issue. Very annoying and simply not good enough.
Comparing the Dream to the Andaz in WeHo is interesting: I’ve stayed several times at both properties so would think I have a good perspective to compare the both: The Andaz is in a better area of town in my opinion, the surrounding areas of the Dream/Thompson/W hotels are pretty dodgy. Hardly any place in the world I can think of where rich and poor are in such close proximity.
At the Dream, I like the hard product better than the Andaz which is in bad need for a renovation unfortunately. The pool deck at the Dream is lovely and you can have a fabulous breakfast up on the same level with perfect views of the Hollywood sign- beats the gloomy downstairs cafe at the Andaz by miles.
However, service is significantly better at the Andaz in my opinion- very hit and miss here at the Dream. But for my booking dates, the Andaz was about $100 a night more expensive which I would say is definitely not worth it while rooms have still not...
Read moreI recently had the pleasure of staying at the Hollywood Dream Hotel, and while there were a few aspects that fell short of expectations, the hotel's prime location, comfortable amenities, and exceptional staff made for an overall enjoyable experience.
Upon arrival, I was greeted by a friendly and accommodating staff. They went above and beyond to ensure my needs were met and provided helpful information. The staff even informed me of nearby self-parking options, which saved me some money compared to opting for valet parking. This level of attentiveness and willingness to assist set a positive tone for my stay.
One aspect that pleasantly surprised me was the early check-in. While the official check-in time was stated as 4 pm, the staff kindly arranged for me to check in at 1 pm. This flexibility and willingness to accommodate guests' needs made me feel valued as a customer and added to the overall positive impression of the hotel.
Moving on to the room itself, I booked the King Silver category. Although the actual room did not match the opulent aesthetics depicted in the promotional pictures, it still provided a comfortable and inviting atmosphere. The absence of openable windows was a drawback, as it made the room feel slightly confined. However, I would recommend selecting a room with a balcony for those seeking a more open and airy experience.
While the rooftop lounge was disappointingly only open on weekends, the hotel's lobby made up for it with its daily offering of complimentary wine and cheese. This thoughtful gesture added a touch of sophistication and provided a pleasant way to unwind after a day of exploration.
One of the standout features of the Hollywood Dream Hotel is its prime location. Situated in the heart of Hollywood, it offers convenient access to various attractions and entertainment venues. This central location allowed me to easily explore the vibrant surroundings, maximizing my time in the area.
Furthermore, I appreciated the presence of Karl Langerfield cosmetics in the room. This upscale addition was a nice touch, catering to guests who appreciate luxurious amenities. The beds were exceptionally comfortable, ensuring a restful night's sleep and enhancing the overall comfort of the stay.
Additionally, the hotel's convenient coffee bar downstairs was a welcome feature. It provided a hassle-free option for grabbing a quick coffee or tea, allowing me to start my day on a positive note without venturing too far.
In conclusion, while the Hollywood Dream Hotel may not have perfectly matched the initial expectations set by the promotional images, it still delivered a comfortable and enjoyable stay. The prime location, comfortable beds, accommodating staff, early check-in option, complimentary wine and cheese in the lobby, and convenient coffee bar all contributed to a positive experience. I would recommend this hotel to anyone seeking a centrally located and comfortable accommodation...
Read moreThis hotel was very falsely advertised. First of all, my boyfriend and I paid over $2,500 for five nights in the “platinum king suite”. Our room was disappointing. We were right above the TAO nightclub (next door to the hotel) after I had requested a quieter room away from the nightclub. The view wasn’t great like you would expect for that price and from the pictures on the website. We came in on a Saturday night and the windows were shaking and the booming from the nightclub went on until 3 or 4am. I knew it might be loud from the reviews online, but I was up most of the night and couldn’t even drown out the sound with white noise from my phone. The next morning, our air conditioning wasn’t working in our room and it turned into a small sauna on the 6th floor. The bed pillows were flat when you laid your head down on them, and the three tiny pillows on the hard couch were like rocks. The bed was hard and hurt my back, and the sheets did not feel as advertised. When we went to shower, the shower was confusing and difficult to turn on, with sharp edges that I cut my arm on. It took several minutes to get warm. There was nowhere to set down even a travel size body wash or anything, even though the shower was large. There was also no fan in the bathroom, so while I was showering, my boyfriend couldn’t see himself to shave. Also, if one of us used the bathroom, there was no fan to turn on afterwards. No microwave either to warm up any leftovers. We tried to not spend much time in the room throughout the five nights because the room was so disappointing, which felt awful given the $2,500 we were spending to stay there. Another advertising flaw was the rooftop bar and pool. On a positive note, the views were beautiful from the rooftop, but that was the only positive note I had. The pool was VERY small, and there was very limited seating area that would be snatched up quickly by other guests. The whole rooftop area closed down very early too. Food wasn’t served past 5pm and drinks past 7pm. That felt like such a waste of space and resources, and I would have really enjoyed (and was looking forward to when I was booking the hotel) having more seating, enjoying the pool, having a meal there with a cocktail, and utilizing the space much more. Overall I was very disappointed with my experience at the Dream Hollywood, and the website made it sound like it was one of the better hotels in the area. I could have gone somewhere much cheaper with more amenities, a better room, and been more comfortable. It was a waste of money, and I wish I could have a refund. I hope that the hotel actually reads the reviews and does something about...
