Disappointed is my word to describe my experience at Pizzana in Marina Del Rey. I was a single walk in and sat at the Bar. It was later in the evening on a Tuesday and the dinner rush was over. My first issue came when I wanted to order the Cacio e Pepe Pizza with Pepperoni but I requested only pepperoni on half the pizza. I was told that this was not possible I said I would pay for the whole thing and was told that their policy was no customization. I could understand if I ordered something truly custom like a half and half but to deny only putting pepperoni on half the pie made no sense and was not customer friendly. I wound up ordering the regular Cacio e Pepe Pizza with NO pepperoni. They lost out of $6 dollars in sales because of their stupid rule. My next issue was with my beverage order. I ordered a coke and they filled my 12 oz coke into a 10 oz glass and put the rest back in the fridge. As I'm working through my meal my server asked if I wanted another drink and when I saw her reach for a fresh can I stopped her and said I didn't want a second coke. This is a terrible tactic, they should have placed the can in front of me to finish when there was room in my glass. The pizza itself was very good, a light tasty crust that lived up to it's reputation. But, by the time I was served my dining experience was pretty much ruined. Before I left I had the opportunity to talk to the manager about my experience and he basically paid me no mind. He blamed the decision about the pepperoni on Corporate policy and shows zero common sense and taking no responsibility and blaming Corporate is a sell out by him. Corporate should empower their managers to solve customer service disconnects not blame them. There are many choices for quality pizza in LA and they will be my choices in the future. Pizzana had their chance and made a bigger error than Aaron Judge. Such a huge...
Read moreWe ordered takeout from Pizzana in Marina del Rey last night, and this review is strictly for the takeout experience. We've dined at the Brentwood location many times and have always loved it, but I was a little skeptical about ordering expensive pizza to-go, worried it might not travel well. Thankfully, Pizzana delivered.
Pickup was smooth -- I arrived about five minutes before the scheduled time, and I appreciated that the food wasn't ready too early and just sitting around. Everything was hot and fresh when I got it. Although we did not dine in today, they need to do something about the ambience of this restaurant because it feels like an office building and it's not really appealing.
We ordered one of our go-to favorites, the Mushroom Fungi pizza, and it was just as good as always: rich, slightly earthy flavors with a perfectly crispy crust. We also tried the Neo Margherita for the first time, and I think this might be my new favorite. Bright, flavorful, and absolutely delicious.
For salads, we went with our usual Caesar, which was tasty as always -- although unfortunately it came with an unexpected piece of plastic in it (not ideal). We also tried the special, Panzanella alle Pesche x Kale Me Maybe. The mix of tomatoes (kumato, sungold, ruby red), charred pizza croutons, peach, stracciatella, basil, and hot honey balsamic vinaigrette was refreshing and unique. The croutons surprisingly weren't soggy, which I really appreciated. That said, it felt like it was missing a little something to bring all the flavors together.
Overall, we were really impressed with how well the pizzas traveled and how fresh everything tasted. Even with the steep prices, it was a solid takeout experience -- aside from the minor salad mishap. We'll definitely...
Read moreVery disappointing experience. I am accustomed to their very busy Brentwood location and visit each time I'm in town. This trip I was staying closest Marina Del Rey and stopped in. It was early afternoon and there were only a couple of workers. The male was very nice and professional. The woman, not so much. Assuming the gentleman was the chef, I was stuck with the female as server. The gfree crust was absolutely terrible. Not sure what happened, but it seemed undercooked, yet tough. Resembling a Boboli crust. I asked if they changed recipes or if this location has a different supplier, but I was told she wasn't employed there long enough to know. I couldn't get much past one slice and asked for a box. She was darn near insisting I leave it. I told her I will take it and figure out what to do with it. When I got the bill, it then made sense why she was encouraging me leave it. I spoke with a gentleman manager who arrived just prior to my departure. I showed him how tough the pizza was to cut (and offered a slice to taste himself). He apparently removed it from my bill, which was the right thing to do.
Even after the above, what most got to me was the fact that although I tipped 20% (or better) on the entire amount of the bill, including the pizza, when she printed her copy of the receipt, it seemed as though she had a look of defeat. I decided to mention to her that I did NOT take the situation out on the staff (because it may have been a product issue). Not sure she heard me because her comment was "it's to be expected", without even looking at the receipt. As opposed to asking what she meant by that, I left and went next door for dessert. Best cupcakes and customer service...
