SusieCakes - Marina Del Rey — Restaurant in Los Angeles

I have only had SusieCakes once in my life (prior to today's adventure), but after today, they now have a life long supporter!

My friend got us some mocha cupcakes from them a few weeks back and it was delicious, moist, and just the right amount of mocha flavor. Since she and I loved it so much, I decided to get her one for her birthday!

I called up this Marina del Rey location to check before making the drive. Alondra was so lovely and helpful - she confirmed that they had some left and then went above and beyond and said that she could save one for me! This was probably around 5pm-ish and my ETA was 5:48 so I already knew it was going to be tight. Of course tho, in classic LA fashion, there was an accident on the freeway and as I crawled along the freeway, I had to watch my ETA go up. I never want to be That Customer so I called again to confirm what time they closed and Alondra told me that she will keep my cupcake for me and to just drive safely! I made it with a minute to spare!

Now Alondra has already been so helpful, but as I burst in through the doors asking about my mocha cupcake, she decided to step it up again. She handed me my treasure in a bag and said that it was on the house and that they also threw in three more cupcakes for free!!! Not only that, but when I finally got to my friend's place with the prized cupcakes in tow, I found this sweet note from her thanking me for making the trip to enjoy their cupcakes and to drive safe! I am so so touched by her kindness and thoughtfulness.

I didn't have any cash on me this time ( :( ), but the next time I come back to SusieCakes, I am leaving a big tip for their delicious cupcakes and Alondra + the rest of their superb staff! Thanks Alondra for...

I went to the Marina del Rey branch of SusieCakes on the hunt for Coconut cupcakes and layer cakes.

Service was very good over the phone and in person after I arrived.

I first tried the coconut cupcake consisting of yellow cake, filled with buttercream and topped with flaked coconut. The cake portion was too dry for my taste.

I also bought a slice of the Tropical cake (consisting of pineapple filling and coconut flake topping) and this fared much better. I got it to go, but after the disappointment of the coconut cupcake, I decided to eat the Tropical cake right then and there at a small table in the store.

The moment I opened the box containing the slice of Tropical cake, an intoxicating scent of pineapples greeted me. The white buttercream frosting was a tad much, but the pineapple coconut filling was oh-so delicious with the right amount of sour and sweet. The cake layers were much more moist here than with the coconut cupcake. Overall, I thought the Tropical Cake was a hit.

For future visits, I'll probably pass on the cupcakes, but go for the layer cakes instead. The whoopie pie and banana cream pies also looked pretty interesting.

SusiCakes has the best cakes, cupcakes and cookies around. They have a bunch in stock and you can order whatever you want. Their ingredients are the best and nothing is every stale.

We went to a different one once before and I found them too pricey. With prices going up they are now the same as my local bakery, which I won't use much anymore. These cakes are simply better in everyway.

The staff is so happy and nice. They know everything they have and will tell you how long a special order will take and they are always right.

The place is just adorable and it is ever so clean.

Parking is easy in a huge lot, it is in a strip type mall and parking is only a little hard around 7 pm because of the not so great eatery next door. But they close at 7 pm so you won't have an issue.

It is just a happy place to be. You can also get cake by the slice, we will try everyone that way and see which ones will become our go to cake. They have smaller cakes and regular size cakes.
