I was staying in the area and was craving sushi for a late lunch/early dinner. Reading other excellent reviews online, I walked in solo around 4pm and was the only customer. I was greeted warmly and chose a seat at the sushi bar.
After perusing the menu for a bit and not being able to choose decided to go all in for the omakase and let the chef pick for me.
The entire experience was an absolute delight. It started with a warm monk fish dish, then proceeded with plenty of pieces of nigiri, made one by one in front of me. Every piece was delicious, but some notable highlights for me included the halibut with a delicious lemon sauce, Spanish mackerel (where I watched the chef break down a whole fish to make my individual piece), and uni (which I normally don’t order but I might start to now!). The meal also included a rich miso soup with a prawn head, and mochi desert. They just opened a couple weeks ago and I hope they stay! We ordered a selection for dine-in, they’ve got a small amount of seats. You pay at the counter first. It’s the same setup the old boba shop there had. Even the same Last Supper mural with Hollywood actors is on the wall.
We look forward to coming here regularly to scratch any sushi urges. The sushi chef and cashier were both super kind and wanted to make sure we enjoyed everything.
In the photos from top down, cucumber avocado roll, red dragon roll, salmon skin roll, and tuna nigiri. I should also note we loved the wasabi, it seemed super freshly ground!
If you need parking there are meters all...
Read moreNew business on Melrose. I live right up the street and I am so happy to find a place like this so close. Im picky about sushi in general and don't often write reviews. It's a tough out there these days. This is fantastic place to satisfy a sushi craving (which I have often) without overspending. They have sashimi, nigiri and cut rolls (and more) as well as one my my favorite things in the world ... spam musubi.
The matcha lemonade was great, the rolls were tasty and thoughtfully prepared. The musubi was just perfect. Awesome for a quick lunch or dinner.
There's not a lot of fuss here, just really good food served by warm and lovely people. Please check them out.
I will be...
