5/17/24 Wow a reply...1 year later. We found another place close to home. The food is excellent, staff is super nice/welcoming and great with my grandkids. No kiosk to order. Waiting in line to get a table is probably the most inconvenience we've experienced. Phebies Cafe - 235 W Ave K, Lancaster, CA 93534.
I was surprised to get a reply - not surprised about all the negative reviews after my visit.
And the owner replies to some reviewers - was really unprofessonal.
We're good eating breakfast in the Antelope Valley. The 2 stars is a rating for coffee and tea that was excellent, but we came for breakfast. This encounter was truly disappointing. One of the very few "restaurants" I could have a a farm to table experience.
The service at Blue Jam Melrose was the WORST for a $95.00 breakfast. The setup is similar to the McDonald's gas station kiosk near my home. The difference is that the food is brought to your table Carl's Jr.).
Prior to receiving our food we stopped the person with the gray mohawk and asked if we could have our coffee and tea; the reply was that "we're backlogged" and never came back.
The person working at the door (hostess?) came by our table with complimentary gingered OJ shots, nice, but not for someone on a diabetic diet; my carbs were my morning hash and honey in my tea.
My morning hash: Black Forrest ham was over cooked looking like bacon bits and the eggs were over cooked too (I said no bread - and bread was included with my meal).
We both paid $3.95 for avocado ($7.90) that was excluded on both meals.
18% tip was NOT commensurate with the service we received. My husband's mother was a waitresses and knows that tips are their main income. We always tip well, the 18% was not deserved.
New system of ordering Probably due to COVID, but, customers are opening the refrigerator and taking bottles of the lemon herbed water, touching glasses, taking to go boxes and then returning them, same thing with the flatware and napkins. So many people touching items defeats the new ordering process.
My husband asked the mohawed person if the coffee press was ready to press - the reply was "press it really slow". What does that have to do with how long the coffee steeped? I didn't bother asking about my tea. We both waited 7 mins before pouring.
Crunchy french toast I don't recall an option to order maple syrup. We used the jam that came with the toast that I didn't order.
Seating A group of 7 was waiting for seating, after 20 min - was told by the person with the mohawk they were not on the waiting list. Two young females walked in and were about to check in and were immediately seated. The hostess had mentioned seating the large group in the closed off section, but didn't.
We eat at Blue Jam whenever I have procedures at Kaiser (I've been fasting) we look forward to breaking our fast here. I hate to say this - we need to find a new place :(
The lady with the mohawk was not kind, courteous or service oriented. The hostess was cheerful and sat in the back most of the time, until our meal was done. Generally, customers are asked if they need anything else, how is everything, would you like any more coffee or tea? In essence we were given the "bums rush". Now that that I think about it, all of us sitting on the east side of the restaurant were Latino, except my husband who is black. I didn't realize this until writing this review. Hmmmm...

I wonder if Encino has this new MickeyD's/CJ set-up/...
Read more3 stars for the food, 1 1/2 stars for the ordering process and rude runner.
Review: My family and I were in the Melrose neighborhood and saw Blu Jam while driving around. We’d frequent the valley location when we lived there and always liked the food.
As we sat, we’re informed that they no longer have a wait staff and orders are to be submitted through their app or online and scanning a QR code. Not a huge deal, a lot of restaurants are seemingly going this way, but with better efficiency than here, which I’ll get into.
The new system of ordering through your phone, whether online or via the app, needs a lot of work. To Blu Jam’s credit, they’re not the only ones adopting this model -hopefully short lived - Le Gran Orange Pasadena comes to mind.
Ordering process: We were only offered a pick up option and noted on the order that we were dining in and provided our table number. Also- tipping ahead of the order’s arrival, what’s that about? (Again another adoption of the fast casual model that works best in the fast casual arena, not in a sit down restaurant).
After ordering though their site, a confirmation email was expected but never received. The wait time for our order to come out us: 30 minutes. Granted it was president’s day and the restaurant was expectedly hopping, so an understandable wait. When the 30 minutes was up, we waited another 10 then went in to check. Our order went through as a pick up and had been sitting on the pick up counter. An employee offered to plate after hearing our hiccup and we waited another 10 minutes for a runner to come out and deliver our newly plated order. Albeit with a bit of an attitude when we informed we only ordered 1 churro not the 2 that came out. He abrasively advised us to check our order receipt- to which we internally thought: oh you mean the one we never received- sure thing!
All in all, if you’re into a glitchy system that only belongs -and has been perfected-in the fast casual restaurant sector like say, Starbucks, by all means, come here. Don’t get me wrong, the food was great and lived up to the nostalgic cuisine we remembered. But, the means in getting it need a ton of work- or quite frankly, a...
Read moreSarah, Isaac and Cecy were Super Great with Our Large Gathering of 9 guest. With a little extra-care the "Blu Jam Cafe" Team served up the most awesomeness breakfast dinning experience we could have hoped for. It was a very Special Birthday Celebration of my Sweetheart's Mother's Birthday of 82yrs.
The Food was so delicious ( Nice Servings & Everyone's Looked so good ) The Americana Coffee - OMG no cream needed... The Churros and Crunchy French Toast- Great as advertised! Breakfast Burrito, Eggwinch, Eggs Benedict...enuf
A notable consideration for Ownership ( Kamil ), if I may suggest.. Because the eatery is Tech-Interactive ( You Scan Menu & Place Order ) Initial human interaction is limited. We immediately felt and experienced that. If at all possible, a "Kind Recommendation" for Groups of 5 or More...Have a Server assist with an Electric Tablet, for smooth interaction to navigate order request - No Re-Fills on Coffee ?!
Ensuring "such a large paying party" Eatery Experience is Memorable in a good way. We all know "We are Not Alone in Our Experiences" just that we're saying it. People often say Nothing to the Business Establishment -yet Tell 11 people just how bad their dining experience really was - which no kpi can track - So your mindfulness into such a request allow adaptability and innovation in conjunction with technology.
There's nothing like Eye to Eye contact, Being heard and Acknowledged- These Priceless Intangible Experiences are Priceless - Its that Added Value People always keep coming back - not for how much they paid - But for how you made them Feel..
We are sooooooo grateful and thankful we chose Blu Jam Café.
Kindest and Warmest...
