Original review: Incase you're wondering why this hotel is free falling in ratings it's because some idiot decided to put a club on the roof and hire the worst DJ on earth to make bad music worse. I have learned this will continue till 2am. We're half way down and the whole building is shaking. The hall had plastic taped up and we had to go across an outdoor corridor to get to our room. Don't fall for late checkout and garden terese. The terese is not private and the breakfast is only for early risers. We will not be back, and you would do yourself a favor to not make our very expensive mistake.
Update: I saw a comment from the hotel trying to blame neighboring hotels/business for the noise. It was definitely coming from the roof club at this hotel.
Acknowledging you need earplugs to actually sleep at a business whose primary service is giving you a place to sleep is the most idiotic attempt to deflect guilt with an admission of guilt I've ever heard. This is an illegally loud nightclub with hotel rooms, not a hotel with a nightclub.
I was told by staff the morning after that it was true that previously they didn't have a club/excessive noise coming from the roof but we're blamed for noise from a neighboring building and it became a matter of "if you can't beat them join them" in their minds, their exact words.
I was told they have a decibel limit that isn't supposed to be exceeded (from the city) and the supervisor I told about our experience was interested in the fact that the noise was fluctuating, seems they were told to turn it down but just waited about 2 minutes and turned it back up several times.
On that night I was told it was a private party, but in the morning I was told by a supervisor it wasn't a private party but their own public nightclub.
I was told they have had to go to city council meetings about the noise and it seems they are still blaming others, even though there is no question it was coming from their building.
I was off the courtyard in the middle of the building, not on an outside facing room. Maybe they have changed since my last stay but I doubt it, feels like the same blame shifting.
As best as I understand it they were in violation of the city sound ordinance during my visit and my wife wanted to call the police so they could document it/cite them and hopefully make them turn it down. Might have been doing them a service if we had and saved them from themselves.
I personally like this hotel very much but will not stay there again unless they stop this absurd and illegal idiocy. The club could still run and probably do as well or better without defining sound levels. We were also illegally passed and cut off by a car of obvious club goers just trying to get to the valet. There was a line of about 5 cars waiting and he drove around us on the wrong side of the road and cut us off. Point is you're going to be dealing with obnoxious and inebriated 20 something clubbers spending Daddy's money while trying to go to what was a nice modern upscale hotel.
We were planning on going to the roof bar for a few drinks but value our hearing and didn't want to deal with that crowd.
If you have to tell guests you offer "high quality ear plugs" you already know you messed up but you're just too dense to make the Right change.
If it really is rouge DJs, fire them. Also set up a db meter that is remotely accessible and keeps constant searchable logs and takes corrective action as needed until the problem is definitively resolved. There is no way of neighboring buildings causing that much of a problem.
The whole building was resonating with the music. I imagine there is probably some piece of equipment that could be installed that would automatically adjust the master volume based on the db recorded by an integrated meter. There are obvious solutions if you are being honest, but I highly doubt you are. I'm sure the club generates 10's of thousands of dollars a night but would be surprised if it out performs the entire rest of the...
Read moreI recently stayed at The Godfrey Hotel Hollywood, booking two rooms for my visit. Given that this hotel is rated four stars, my expectations were in line with what I would typically experience at a comparable property in Las Vegas where I am from. A city known for high standards in hospitality. Unfortunately, the experience fell short in several key areas. Upon entering the room, one of the first things I noticed was the sticky floor, which immediately raised concerns about cleanliness. For a four star hotel, this is an unacceptable oversight. Additionally, while the rooms are nicely decorated with modern upgrades (such as a rainfall shower, decent pillows, and a comfortable bed), the overall room size was on the smaller side, which may be expected for Los Angeles but still felt underwhelming compared to similarly rated hotels elsewhere. The temperature in the room was 55°F upon arrival, which was uncomfortably cold and inconvenient to adjust. Another issue was the ventilation. The air in the room felt very stagnant, with little to no air movement. For instance, if I sprayed cologne, the scent seemed to linger indefinitely rather than dissipate. This lack of airflow made the room feel stuffy, even when adjusting the thermostat. While the hotel does offer dry cleaning, laundry services, and a in room steamer, my stay was negatively impacted by an issue with a $62 wine, macaron, and chocolate enhancement package for Valentineâs Day, that was never delivered to the room. It was only offered to be brought up when we were already preparing to check out, rendering it pointless. This indicates a lack of attention to detail in fulfilling guest requests. Additionally, the hotel advertises valet parking for $50 per night, yet upon arrival, I was told I would be charged $60 per night. This kind of misleading pricing is frustrating and should be corrected in their advertising. Another frustrating oversight was the amenities provided in the room. We booked a king room for two people, but all of the provided amenities such as the robe and coffee/espresso were only set up for one person. This felt like a lack of consideration for the number of guests in the reservation. Customer service was another area where this hotel fell short. The supervisor on duty was impatient, dismissive, short, borderline rude and rushed to get off the phone, displaying a lack of politeness and professionalism that I would expect from a four star establishment. When I inquired about the price of a pillow (to potentially trade it for the missed enhancement package), the supervisor didnât know the price and told me I would have to wait two hours for the housekeeping manager by which point, I would already be checked out. This was another missed opportunity to make things right for a guest. The lobby experience upon arrival was chaotic. It was very loud with a live band in the bar area making it difficult to communicate with the front desk. The environment felt more like a nightclub than a hotel check-in area, which wasnât the most welcoming first impression. The view was disappointing not something anyone would find enjoyable. The rooms are soundproof, which was a positive aspect. It was very quiet, which is appreciated in a busy city like Los Angeles. Lighting was good, and the TV was a decent size. The hotel sells items in the room (such as robes and pillows), but the lack of knowledge on pricing was frustrating. Given that this hotel is marketed as a four star property, I would rate my experience 2.5 to 3 stars. Compared to the Las Vegas standards I am accustomed to. This would be a subpar room with below average service for a four star hotel. However, since Los Angeles pricing and expectations differ, it may be more acceptable within this market. That being said, the lack of attention to detail, poor customer service, misleading valet pricing, and ventilation issues bring down the overall experience. If you are expecting a true four star experience this is...
Read moreSo.. we stayed here for 3 nights during my partner and Iâs vacation. Of course weâve been to countless hotels all around the globe but have never encountered one like this. I donât know who theyâre trying to impress but I feel like theyâre missing the important factors of a hotel; COMFORT and HOSPITALITY. Also, compared to Marriott, I can get 1000x better service, rooms and amenities there while paying less! So will not be making this mistake again and just choose Marriott!
Upon arrival, we were treated condescending by the valets because we refused to pay for valet parking which is $50 a night. By condescending it wasnât straight-to-the-face, more like high-school-teenage-girls condescending. Theyâd smirk and laugh everytime we pass them, but it was obvious when we first arrived there. $50 is too much for us. The back lot had a flat rate of $15 for 24hr and we could see it from our room, we parked there for our last night. Plenty of parking around the area so no need for their parking. Moving on to the lobbyâs first impression. Receptionist was a woman in her 20s I think. She was not friendly or inviting at all. Sure she was straightforward with her work but we did not feel like she was as welcoming as she should be. Throughout our stay weâd see her a couple of times and she really isnât fit for a first impression of the hotel because sheâs too unpleasant to be a receptionist. The room. We got the Hill view and while we did see the âHollywoodâ sign, it was TOO SMALL. The walkway from the entrance to the bed(which was only like 5,6 steps btw) couldnât even fit 2 people to walk side by side! The fridge was too small. No freezer compartment. No microwave. Maybe they focused on the aesthetics too much. Or did they focus more on the rooftop bar? Iâve seen reviews of which there were parties on the rooftop and when guests complained the hotel denied of there ever being one regardless of the sound vibrations throughout the walls of the hotel room. I was prepared for this so when that finally happened on our first night, we called the front desk but to no avail. Shocker. We wouldnât complain anyway we just wanted to know whatâs going on. Oh and we did not check the roof that night but there was no need for it. When we got back to the hotel around 9-10pm, there was a separate long queue for people who wanted to go to the rooftop or smth so yes there was definitely something going on up there. The front desk was pretty hard to reach. Out of all the receptionists we met there, only 1 was kind enough to actually treat us like guests. He was the person to check us out. We explained to him that the hotel hasnât been friendly to us. He apologized, thanked us for our stay and helped us out with whatever we needed. Location-wise, itâs a good place, but it is in Hollywood so itâs pretty dirty. Will not come here again and would not recommend it either. The hotelâs main focus is the visual aspect and the restaurant and bars they have. While doing that, they have forgotten about the comfort of their guests. I do not believe a hotel should be giving off even the slightest bit of discrimination towards ANYONE based on which room theyâve booked, what they are wearing, what race or gender they are, or even whether they had valet parking or not. After all, we paid over $1000 to stay there. Thatâs not little.
Hopefully the people checking this hotel out will take my review to account and also the hotel would see this so that they could improve in the future. If they donât, then we know where their real...
