I have been to this place several times to pick up orders for other people. The place smells really good and at the Reseda location the staff were really nice and at the Woodland Hills location it appears very clean. However, I cannot judge the atmosphere or service today as I ordered from a third-party app.
What I will say is that the fish was fried to perfection and I was very impressed with the portion size of the fish and sides. Often times at non-franchised restaurants the sides are the size of a snack portion and they charge an exorbitant price.
I decided to try this place because of so many wonderful reviews, and the good smells when I have visited in the past. I am giving my honest review and I don’t mean this review to be rude in anyway, I just hope that the owners will take heed and make a few changes.
Although the fish presents really well, and looks delicious, it is bland as bland can be! I don’t taste any salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, old bay, etc. The greens were equally as bland with no chicken, bouillon, flavor, butter, onion powder, salt, pepper, garlic NOTHING! All I tasted was earth. I ordered the grilled veggies with no onion and they were chuck full of onions and burnt. I have provided a picture.
I’m not sure if this restaurant is trying to cater to the demographic of the area. I noticed that a lot of non-franchised restaurants in this area, heavily lack seasoning, but I wish that they would STOP! I realize that restaurants can have an off day, and I certainly will try this place again. But today...

The sauce for the shrimp and fish Tartar sauce was top-of-the-line. My Orange Roughy was absolutely delicious tender and juicy, I got it fried lightly but cooked. They can prepare it fried, baked, broiled, or grilled.
I had to see how it tasted while it was hot, so I pulled over and tasted it, then I pulled over again, and tasted it again. Don’t laugh at me because I did laugh at myself.
By the time I got home, it was cold. Can you believe it was still delicious, I had their thick Sweet Potato Wedges soft with a little crunch on it, again delicious. I definitely went and bought sweet potatoes to try and cook like that.
I’m from the old school of fried fish, it takes a lot to please me, I waited for 30 years living in the Valley to find a fish place like they had all over south-central LA and Long Beach. Where your fish was finger-licking good, Fishbone passes that test.
The customer service was excellent, it was past closing when I got there. Arlene, the owner was so nice she was outside guiding me to the right entrance, everyone that worked there was on point with their customer service. Try it you...
Read moreVisiting from Charleston, SC, I mostly know fish that swim in salt water. Darlene, the owner, who clearly knows her fish, sold us on the trout. It was breaded and really really good, but hot damn, this woman from Detroit knows her way around some collard greens. HERS ARE THE BEST I'VE EVER HAD. It was one of those sides wherein I could taste the love someone has when they really enjoy preparing food for others (ends up there's no meat in it at all, which surprised me and seems noteworthy for those looking for veg options). A person can only eat so much in one sitting, so I'll come back for the red beans and rice before I leave the left coast. Celebrate this Black/woman-owned grilled-to-order cafe and fresh fish market (the selection impressed me -- I imagine with the easy parking is a sneaky cool way to skip long lines elsewhere). The hibiscus soda was off the chain special too. I had no idea a chain restaurant could serve this caliber of food and hospitality.
Now that I've peeked at the other reviews, it strikes me I should have taken a photo ......
