Torisoba Sumiya in Los Angeles specializes in charcoal-grilled chicken ramen, offering a unique twist on the traditional dish. Here's a review based on available information: Unique Concept: The standout feature is the smoky flavor imparted by the charcoal-grilled chicken, which many reviewers find to be a pleasant and interesting change from typical ramen. Some compare the aroma to Indonesian satays or a backyard BBQ. Broth: The chicken-based broth (paitan) is described as rich, flavorful, and not overly heavy. Some find it almost creamy and appreciate that it's not too salty or fatty, making it enjoyable to drink to the last drop. Toppings: The charcoal-grilled chicken is a highlight, although some wish for a larger portion or more seasoning. Other standard toppings include scallions, red radish, seasoned egg, and seaweed. Some reviewers enjoyed the green onions for the flavor contrast they provide. Noodles: The noodles are specifically formulated for chicken soba and are made fresh daily, offering a good chew. Ambiance and Service: The restaurant itself is noted to be small and can get crowded. The service is generally described as friendly and attentive. Menu Highlights: Japanese BBQ Chicken Ramen: The signature dish with charcoal-grilled chicken. Pure Rich Chicken Ramen: Features grilled chicken chashu instead of the BBQ chicken. Rich Spicy Chicken Ramen: A spicy variation with grilled chicken chashu, chili pepper, and garlic. Rice Bowls: Options include Japanese BBQ Chicken Bowl, Grounded Chicken Bowl, and Fried Chicken Bowls. Appetizers: Fried chicken (with sweet and sour or tartar sauce), edamame, and Japanese BBQ chicken are available. Things to Consider: Price: Some reviewers mention that the ramen can be a bit pricey, and the portion of chicken might be on the smaller side for the cost. Yuzu Sauce: A yuzu hot sauce is available as a condiment, and it's noted to be quite spicy, so use it sparingly. Location: Torisoba Sumiya is located in the Sawtelle area of Los Angeles. Overall: Torisoba Sumiya offers a distinctive ramen experience with its charcoal-grilled chicken and rich chicken broth. It's a popular spot for those looking for a different kind of ramen with a smoky...

Having opened just two months ago, Torisoba Sumiya is already making a splash on the ramen scene in West Los Angeles as a top-tier shop.

I decided to swing by during lunch today and was surprised to find a wait list around noon. After my first slurp of the delicious broth, I understood why. Keep in mind the place is small, best suited for small groups or solo diners.

I got the Japanese BBQ Chicken Ramen today, which was unique as the chicken is literally BBQ'd in their kitchen right in front of you - and lucky me, I was seated at the counter! I had a front-row seat to watch the chicken being grilled naturally, and I couldn't help but savor the delicious smoky flavor. Now, I have to mention - the chicken's appearance might throw you off at first (it honestly looked like burnt brussels sprouts!), but trust me, the taste is incredible.

The chicken broth was excellent too. It was light yet complex and complemented the entire bowl, which is a big deal for me. With ramen, everything has to complement each other, and Torisoba Sumiya delivered. Better yet, they exceeded expectations.

Overall, Torisoba Sumiya has become my new favorite ramen shop in Los Angeles. It's a unique variation from your usual pork tonkotsu ramen, so I definitely encourage y'all to check this place out if you're in the area. The service was also prompt and friendly.

I walked away a happy camper today - thanks, Torisoba Sumiya! I'll...

At Torisoba Sumiya in Sawtelle, the signature dish is a chicken-based ramen topped with beautifully chargrilled chicken. It is quite unique in Los Angeles, where ramen usually focuses on tonkotsu or miso styles. On our visit, even though it was the weekend, we only waited about five minutes before being seated, which shows the restaurant has a relatively quick turnover. The interior is casual yet welcoming, designed with warm wood accents that create a cozy atmosphere, although the table seating felt a bit tight. One charming detail is that you can see the chefs grilling the chicken over charcoal through a glass window at the counter, which adds to the dining experience.

The menu features three main types of ramen as well as rice bowls, which can also be ordered as sets. The broth is lighter than tonkotsu but still rich in chicken flavor, paired with thin noodles that complement the soup well. The Japanese BBQ Chicken Ramen stands out with its smoky, chargrilled flavor, while the Pure Rich Chicken Ramen is more refined and mild, making it a great option for children or those who prefer a delicate taste. The spicy ramen was flavorful without being overwhelmingly hot. A highlight was the yuzu kosho condiment, recommended by the staff it pairs perfectly with the grilled chicken and provides a refreshing change of flavor. Overall, it was a satisfying experience with a balance of quality, atmosphere, and...
