Zankou Chicken — Restaurant in Los Angeles

This review is based on a Postmates order placed on 4/25/21 which is also being posted on Yelp.

I placed an order through the Postmates app which, after half an hour later, I was notified that it can take up to another 1+ hour till the delivery will be made.

I decided to show up and pick up the order on my own. The manager said that she can't give me the order and I'll have to wait for another hour for the Postmates delivery person to come pick up my food. So, my food was going to sit on their counter for another hour while I was right there.

I cancelled my order through the app since the manager said that the transaction would get refunded and she said I was going to have to pay the store directly. I explained to her that I had already paid through the app and that, as far as I’m aware, they won't refund me. She insisted that the app should refund me and i should give them a call if it doesn't post automatically.

I am currently put on hold with Postmates customer service for over 2 hours as I am writing this review.

I'm just trying to avoid double-paying for an order and the manager seemed confident that a refund would be issued through the app.

To the owner: feel free to message me so we can straighten things out. I have the Postmates receipt and the Zankou restaurant receipt as proof of both purchases along with the card...

Verdict: A touch pricey, but WONDERFUL taste!! I have to give it 5 stars! We get food here almost once a week and it’s literally DELICIOUS. And I do not easily give out 5 stars. I love the meat, but especially the Mutabal and Hummus as well as the Tadzhiki. In fact, the hummus here is probably the best hummus I’ve had in a decade. And just for the record, I have been to this place many times over the past 10 years, and even the other locations. Sometimes in the past it was hit or miss, but for this past year, every single time we have gone here the food has been absolutely amazing and tasty. Gratitude to the staff and the chefs that are keeping it consistent and delicious nowadays! It’s often the highlight of our week!

Unfortunately, the prices are quite high and you can’t walk out with a decent plate for less than about $20 a person really, but this is the economics of Los Angeles I suppose. Imho it’s too expensive for a fast food style set-up, but on the other hand, the quality is MUCH much higher than any fast food place. Hopefully inflation cools back down at some point so I can afford to eat...

Gladys is a gem. Friendly, welcoming, sweet. She took my order and as always efficient. When I went in to pick up my meal, which has been a very regular occurrence, she was on a break. I asked the young lady taking my money to thrown in some pickled as I always do. She was staring at the register and after a time I asked if I could swipe my card. She explained that the pickles had charged when only with a bowl. I mentioned that it’s never been mentioned and said she would speak to Gladys about that. That is NOT what you tell a customer when you can’t figure out how to enter it and make them wait. I asked to speak with a manager and she proudly announced that she was one of the ones in charge. She proceeded to further explain about the charge, but she would give me one this time. It’s not the money, but a friendly welcome with a smile would have been preferred. Every other employee is fabulous, but I suggest that this person gets advised on customer service. There are other establishments with food and for that matter other Zankou’s.
