I have eaten at another El Nopal location before, but the Baxter Ave, location left a bad first impression for me. First I will say that the chips and the spicy salsa were excellent, as was their house Margarita. Service was quick, if not a bit impersonal. I am not hard to please when it comes to food and I rarely write reviews at all, but I was extremely disappointed with my entree, and it left me very depressed. So much so that I canceled my plans for the rest of the evening to go home. I ordered the Chicken al Chipotle, which was a dish I ordered at another location and liked very much. I have learned from experience that if they have to tell you that the porcelain plate is very hot, most likely the food isn't fresh and it's been microwaved into oblivion like someone's leftovers. Here the chicken was very dry, the rice was very dry, tasteless, and stuck to the plate from overheating, the chipotle cream sauce overwhelmed everything and the heat of the plate caused it to burn at direct contact. Wasn't able to finish it; very disappointing, and no amount of inebriation from margaritas or other libations would be able to disguise how poorly prepared this dish was. If the food isn't worth making fresh to order, then it's probably not worth eating. I want to like El Nopal's food, but I have had better Mexican...
Read moreThere is nothing better after a long hard gruesome day at work than to end your night with an ice cold beer and a good Taco. Or 5 or 6. After finishing a job in New Albany the guys and I were in need of some hearty meal after work before getting on the road to head back home for a 5 hour drive. So, as you can guess we needed a meal that would hold us off until we got home. I ordered the 3 Caritas tacos that came with rice and beans, my partners ordered the steak and shrimp which also came with rice and beans. The other ordered the Taco, burrito, and enchilada plate. Along with a quesadilla which was gigantic. To top the night our server suggested a shot of tequila as we were ordering our beers. Our amazing server also took helped make it a great experience. When the drinks arrived at the table we were expecting some 12 Oz bottles of beer. No. We got giant beer mugs that made me feel like I was drinking from a giants cup. You can smell the taunting smell of the food before it arrived to the table. This place was just what we needed for the night. It is located in a beautiful part of town with lots to do and see. If you like Mexican cuisine and a fun friendly atmosphere you should definitely stop in and say hi. If you are not sure what to order the staff is very helpful. Five...
Read moreThe worst experience ever...every other time we've been to this location has been fantastic. According to one of the staff, management has changed as well as the entire staff. We were one of 5 tables in the restaurant, all 3-4-top tables. There were 3 of us and every single order was wrong, one of us never got their food, I received my food, missing the queso on my chimichanga, it wasn't even fried...they gave me burrito. About 10 minutes later the other 2 meals came out smh. One meal came out with stk instead of chx, that got sent back. The server was asked to not bring the meal back out because the experience was already horrible. They came back out with the order anyway when the rest of us were 2/3 finished with our meals. The other meal was wrong but it was eaten anyway. Corporate should pull this location's franchise agreement! No apologies and they just didn't care. I'll be sharing this awful experience with everyone I know and we will definitely not be coming back to this location. It's a shame because we have had several office lunches...
