My husband and I went on a date without a reservation on Oaks around 6:30pm. There wasn’t a wait, but it did start filling up while we were there. The restaurant is very nicely decorated with gold and black themes throughout. There were red and black roses hanging from the ceiling for derby. I was disappointed that there were two large screen televisions at the rear of the main level dining area. It’s out of place for the stayed theme the restaurant is going for. The seating was comfortable, but the table was crowded with items. Our server was the most disappointing part of our experience. She was inattentive at best. We had to ask for refills, the desert menu, etc. We waited on our server a lot.
We ordered the charcuterie ($42), an appetizer for 3-4 people according to the menu. It came out with raisins, dried apricots, grapes, a strawberry, blueberries, blackberries, 2 spicy hamburger pickle slices, an assortment of cheeses that were not identified by the server nor in the menu, we had to guess, some were very spicy, and an assortment of cured meats, also not identified in anyway. Some of the cheeses may have been Colby, Colby Jack, Gouda, fresh mozzarella, string cheese, pepperjack. Meats; salami, prosciutto, spicy salami, etc. the presentation was good. The most disappointing and revealing thing about this charcuterie is the townhouse crackers it comes with. Eek. That’s the only grain provided with this large board. Overall, the amount of fruit saved the board and made it enjoyable. We ordered the Filet Mignon ($57) with Mac and cheese and loaded tater tots. We let the server know we would be splitting the meal. Most nicer establishments take the time to split the meal in the kitchen and bring it out on two plates, even Bob Evans brings you a second plate to split your meal. Our server did neither. Our appetizer took up what space was left on our table. We requested a box. Our server said she would bring one. Instead she brought out our entree and had no where to put it. The filet and Mac and cheese were beautiful. Unfortunately, our steak was undercooked, but better that than overcooked. It had a good flavor and the steak with the demi-glacé melts in your mouth. The Mac and cheese had a nice broiled crust on top and good flavor. The loaded tater tots were disappointing. They are served with no dipping sauce. They have a texture reminiscent of mushy tater tots. They were bland with a hint of cheese. We were not offered dessert, and apparently they were out of half of them. My husband had two of the special rose margaritas. They were...
Read moreThis place will take the #1 spot for the worst restaurants in my book. I wish I could give no stars. Let me start by saying the evening started out good with my family being excited to try a new restaurant. Was able to get a table the night before Mother's Day so that was a plus. Sat down and the server Melisa told us they only have Pepsi or diet. Ok then I chose water. The water cup was a rocks glass and for some reason wasn't refilled often. I wish I could say the server was busy but she seemed to hang out by the bar often talking to either a manager or bartender or server. It was hard to tell because some of them were in an Egyptian costume and some were not, but all seem to be able to come and go from behind the bar. The servers had several near misses with running into each other due to there not being any organization to all the madness. I first noticed almost all the options for side were some kind of potato with one option being seasonal veggies. I wanted to order steak but was very confused by the lack of oz or size listed, only the very high price. The steak itself was good but not worth $52. During this WHOLE TIME they had one guy singing on stage which was so damn loud you could not talk at the table because no one would hear you. Anyway back to the food... The seasonal veggies might as well been thrown in oil, the microwave for 30 seconds then to table. Yes they were that hard! After dinner we asked for dessert menus and after a wait we got it and placed an order for one tres leches cake. This took 30 minutes to come out and I'm not exaggerating. The server came over after 20 minutes to say they were still working on it..... Lmao it was the size of a cupcake with a strawberry and strawberry syrup on top. Not worth 30 minutes or even 10. By this point I'm angry and ready to leave so have to flag the server down again to finally get the check. I honestly have no idea what exactly they are going for with the decor. Sun, and Egyptians ok I guess but also astronauts and black and red roses hanging from the ceiling?? Wth? As soon as you walk in the smell of a cleaning solution called fabuloso which is so strong that it's all you smell. Looked like they had it in spray bottles for table cleaning. Since this is a restaurant you want the smell to be of the food just fyi. I wish I had never gone to this place and definitely will not in the future. I'm so disappointed because I chose this place for my family only for us all to leave...
Read moreWe went to this restaurant to celebrate a birthday and it was a mistake. We had two major issues while attending this restaurant. We were seated for at least 15 to 20 minutes and no server came to greet us. I had to walk up to a random worker and asked for a supervisor that’s when I figured out that he was actually our server. He immediately came to the table to start taking drink orders. After our drink order, he disappeared for a long time. When we did see him again we had to wave him down to come back to us.We had to wave down the servers several for waters and other things as we was not coming by to check on us. Service was so bad that you had to get everything you could out of the server while he was at the table because there was no telling when you were going see him again. This waiter also tried to take our half full Appetizer from the table to throw it away Instead of asking us if we were done with it. We had to shout for him to bring it back. When it comes to the food at this restaurant, I will caution you to play it safe and stick to the chicken or steak. One of my family members ordered the pasta and it was bland. When she requested to have it taken away, the manager kept asking her what was wrong with the dish as if she needed to give a huge explanation of why she didn’t like the food after taking only two bites. I literally had to step in and tell him that she just didn’t like the dish For him to stop questioning her. He never came back to the table to tell us that the dish was being taken off the bill we found out later when the bill came. Even with this horrible service, we were forced to tip 20% because of our group size. This Restaurant charges premium prices, but provides subpar service and with that I cannot Recommend this restaurant to anyone Until they address their customer...
