My boyfriend and I have been wanting to try this place because it's a new restaurant that we hadn't been to before. We went right as they opened yesterday and were seated immediately. I absolutely loved the decor. It felt like we were in a cute little retro Miami diner! We ordered the pork dumplings as an app, and holy moly, those were delicious! Our waiter let us know immediately that this app would take some time to come out, but I don't feel like we waited too long for it. As an entree, I ordered the Big Kahuna burger, and it was DIVINE. The only thing I didn't like about it was how messy it was, but that's not an issue for me. My bf ordered the Smokehouse BBQ burger and was able to customize it, switching the smoked cheddar for American cheese. So when they brought our burgers over, I received mine, but my bf was given a completely different burger from what he ordered. Immediately, the food runner took it back, apologizing for the mistake, and told us it would be right out. Our waiter came back over to apologize as well, which we really appreciated. However, this was one of the two times I felt like our waiter checked on us. A big thing for me is being present, checking on your guests, and topping off drinks. Granted, we were also given a water pitcher and glasses when we were seated, so this wasn't that big of a deal. But the server for the table next to ours checked on their table at least four times while they were there. I hated that my bf didn't get his burger at the same time as I did, so we nibbled on my tots, which were delicious, until his burger came. It definitely came faster than my burger, which may be why they forgot to add the crispy onion straws and BBQ sauce. The menu stated it was going to be drenched in the sauce, but sadly, there was only a dab. He said his burger was still delicious, and they even changed his cheese, which was nice, but I'm sad he didn't get the full experience. Overall, we enjoyed it and will definitely try it again. We will try the golf on...
Read moreYou need to know what this place was up against to make my family this happy. I have multiple food allergies, my autistic son has a limited array of foods he'll try, and my spouse is pretty specific in what he likes as well. Not only could we all get food we would try, we all got food we loved! For the food allergy crowd, and vegetarians and vegans there were lots of options. They have a dedicated gluten free fryer and the only fried item that contains gluten goes into a separate fryer. My son said the burger was one the best he's had. My spouse had the tinga chicken tacos and said they were excellent. I tried the fish taco, and the cauliflower taco, and I will say that that both were fried to perfection, and topped perfectly. We also split an order of Nutella pancakes, and there was some sort of magic going on there. Every bite was extraordinary.
The service was attentive and friendly, and the owner came and chatted for a bit too. Then we played a round of mini golf, and it was one of the most fun outings we've had in ages.
There is a bar with plenty of options, though we didn't try any. There are fresh squeezed juices including orange, grapefruit and pineapple.
The mini golf holes each had a placard about the historical hole it recreated. It was NOT an easy course, but was a quick play and enjoyable.
There are indoor and outdoor seating options, excellent music, and wonderful art deco tiki lounge vibes. All nine holes of the golf course are inside and can be enjoyed regardless of weather.
I can't recommend it highly enough. This place may be my new...
Read moreA fantastic and unique experience. Came here for a Sunday brunch date and wasn't disappointed at all.
The menu is a unique mix of Mexican and Hawaiian with a few 'safe' options for less adventurous eaters. We had the pineapple fried rice and Cali double burger with no complaints. Prices while not cheap were not out of line for downtown or NuLou.
The drink menu was fairly extensive with both standard tiki options and a few unique cocktails. A few mocktails were also available.
Service was absolutely fantastic. Our server, Jesse, was attentive but not overbearing and was quick to answer questions and help make substitutions for a pickier eater. The upstairs bar was closed for Sunday brunch but I assume this is open during other hours, making drinks easier to get during mini golf.
Speaking of mini golf, what an awesome addition to an already great restaurant and bar. The 9 holes are each themed after a classic tiki drink and not boring at all. Another review mentioning they are poorly built must have been from a different time. These were all well maintained, fun, and funny.
South Seas is a fantastic addition to Louisville and a great unique date idea. We also saw several families with young children having a blast. Highly...
