I go here frequently. At a base level, their food is good. Bagels are tasty, sandwiches are great, and their coffee selection is outstanding (hot, iced, frozen, many flavors, many toppings, with several smoothie flavors to choose from). If you order directly off the menu, you will be satisfied with the food.
The service, on the other hand, is not great. Every other time I go there, my order winds up being incorrect.
Today, for example. I ordered an iced latte and a smoothie (both great), a panini sandwich and a salmon bagel sandwich. I asked that the panini be put on a bagel but be otherwise prepared the same way, and that the bagel for the lox sandwich be toasted. Not complicated. Figured my requests would be easy to accommodate.
Sandwich came on bread, and the bagel was not toasted. Nothing pisses me off more than when I ask explicitly whether it's okay that my order be prepared a certain way, I get smiled at and told "Sure! No problem at all!" and then they go into zombie-food-service mode and just space out on my requests completely.
Just show a little care I guess? I'm not exaggerating at all, this happens about every other time I go there.
Some other thoughts: the whole multiple-register-bank thing? Where you order at one register, then walk over and pay at another, then go wait for your food in the middle of the shop? It's incredibly inefficient. Go to a Chunkin' Blonuts, for example: 3 registers, all in the same place, you order and pay, and then you wait at a counter designated for food pickup. Average wait time is probably less than half what it is at Einstein Bros, and the food is virtually exactly the same in terms of preparation.
Einstein Bros: get it together...
Read moreHuge fan of Caribou being from Minnesota but my experience at this location has left me disappointed more than once. Yesterday I went to specifically to purchase beans as I had a couple weeks prior. Then I was told to pick 2 bags for $20 when I brought the Minita coffee to the register. This time I tried to do the same but was told that the Minita coffee did not qualify for that deal but they would honor it today only. I also ordered a maple latte and when I picked it up it felt unusually light, when I opened it I noticed it had pretty heavy foam on the top. Lattes don't usually have that much foam in my experience at Caribou or any coffee shop. I was informed by the barista that was the way it was supposed to be but she could add more milk. The owner said the same but at that point I just wanted to leave. I shouldn't have to argue about a drink. I just haven't had a decent drink from this location so I won't return. Bummed since Caribou is my fave.
The last time I visited I did not know until after I left that they refused to let my elderly father use the restroom. I think they must not have realized that he was with me, no idea since he was initially standing next to me while I purchased 2 bags of beans. My father did not tell me until later that they said the restrooms we're only for customers. That made me quite...
Read moreI placed an order online to avoid the wait time. I entered 15 minutes later after I ordered. I stood there another 15 minutes. I asked if they had an order for me and was told they were backed up. The thing is a walk in customer got his coffee and food before I did. It took 5 minutes. Maybe they should stop the online order and just go to in person only if they are going to ignore the processes they have in place. UPDATE - I called and spoke with someone. He said my order was in the window the entire time. It was not. I checked 2 times. I saw a bag and an empty cup. I told him I wanted a refund and he said it's not happening. I never received my coffee or refund. If he is a manager he needs more training. He is very unprofessional. His name is Michael Crawford. It's great when a person knows someone in corporate office.
I am one of those that I would walk in and everyone knew my name. I was a regular here but after this service I will not be returning. Hopefully the owner corrects this persons attitude.
Michael Crawford - If you can't do the job and respect customers then quit. You are horrible at customer service and need help.
UPDATE: 4/28/25 - I spoke with the District Manager and he was more than pleasant to talk to. He assured me I would be getting a refund. I am always happy to see a responsive manager. ...
