Well, i really hate to write this review as i have been a Garys customer but what happened my last visit there was quite disappointing and i am writing this review because how it was handled was what really upset me. Its been two weeks and i wanted to give the owner time to reach out but i have heard nothing back. Two weeks ago i left my house and came to eat at Garys. I parked my car in their parking lot. 3hrs later i came outside to find my car had been broken into at their premises. My door handle was broken off and items stolen. Ofcourse i went inside and let them know and they took my info down and said they would reach back out to me so we can view the video surveillance. They did not reach out and i had to go back to Garys after filing a police report. I was told the owner was on vacation but had access to the video through his phone. It then became me having to beg to see what happened. Days later they finally said they watched it but couldn't see what happened to my car. They saw me arrive and when i discovered i had been broken into but not who broke in. Now my question was , i came straight from home to Garys and my car was fine. I get there my car handle has been broken off, my things stolen and you cant see what happened but you see me arriving at Garys. I asked to see the footage or for it to be emailed. But the manager said the footage is too long and they wont pay an outside company to download the video and send to me, i asked to come in and see then was told the owner is on vacation. Please note there are no signs saying "park at your own risk" and there is a bright lights as well as two big security cameras facing the parking. I was not asking for Garys to compensate me for what happened at their premise but as a business owner how can my car be broken into at your business and you are nonchalant about it ? Not even a follow up with me. It all quite fishy as well that they could see me arrive but nobody breaking into my car. So what happened in those hours i was there? Was it a ghost that broke into my car? I needed the footage to get an idea of what happened and also to show my insurance. This is after i have been a customer at Garys and have spent my money there a few times. Im disappointed and whoever is eating there PARK AT YOUR OWN RISK and if your car is broken into, they will be nonchalant about it and pretend they can't see what happened...
Read moreWent here cuz we saw it online. Asked around and has been told it was a place to try. So we did ! I called for reservations but didn't need them for our 630 seating time. Maybe later at night you may need them as it got busy with a few large parties. When we arrived a young woman went to seat us. I told her we reserved a table and she looked at me with a smile -but blankly. I think maybe a bit of a language barrier. Someone else came up and sat us. We were sat by the kitchen. Quiet table in the back but I would have preferred another table as folks just kept coming in and out of the kitchen (of course). But it didn't matter honestly. We got two mojitos. Hubby says you must try the jalapeño one if you like things spicy. My regular mojito was the best I've ever had. Yup. Empanadas , the goat dish and see bass rounded out our meal. Empanadas were yummy. Three for an appetizer. Flavorful with a sauce that tastes familiar like Russian dressing. The goat was great. Hubby loves goat and he said it was cooked perfectly and very rich. Bones everywhere though- which I think is a "thing" because every goat meal we have had always is cooked with the bones. It was served in a bowl like stew. I got the sea bass that was stuffed with a crab mixture. I had a choice of what sauce to choose too. I got the coconut sauce ( no pieces of coconut thank goodness cuz I can't have pieces ) which was a light orange sauce that tasted amazing. Only downside ? My fish was swimming in the sauce. Totally distracted from the flavor of the fish. If i has asked gif it on the side ig would have been better just because of the amount of sauce I had. Both meals cane with rice and beans. We were asked to choose our side- but no idea what most were as they weren't in English (our bad for not asking ). Huge side portions. We ended up taking home one side! We'd def go back. Maybe a bit later. Ordering other items as there are so many choices. FYI: They DO charge a fee to use a debit/credit card but offer a discount if...
Read moreSooooo, I posted a review here that has been cut and pasted and can be read after this current review so that it is clear that I am not biased against this restaurant. 7/11/21 we ordered delivery thru Uber Eats. Tonight we ordered the meat and seafood paella for $48. Having eaten there on multiple occasions in the past, I was excited that I could get their food delivered. Billed as a dish for two, it was exactly what we wanted. The flavor was nice (not special) but the amount of protein was sorely lacking. If you read their description about what is featured, in OUR dish was one tiny piece each of chicken and sausage, three clams, half a dozen mussels and not a hint of lobster. I'm not sure if rice is the same as risotto in Central America but it was nicely seasoned. As much as I have loved everything I have ever eaten there before, I was very disappointed in this meal. I can't imagine what it is like to be in the restaurant industry with what it has had to deal with this past year, but the description of the meal and the final product were worlds apart. I hope it's not a sign that their quality has diminished. Read my previous review below... A true hidden gem in Lowell. From the sweet waitress, Fernanda, who explained everything and made wonderful recommendations, to the quality, tastiness and presentation of the food to the ambiance, this is a place that I will come back to time and time again. Can't recommend Gary's Tipico...
