Rain Cafe — Restaurant in Lubbock

We went to Rain on 34th the evening before Valentine's Day. Every chain was packed..but who needs chains, anyway? We'd never tried Rain before, and thankfully, there was no line out the door. The restaurant wasn't crowded, but steadily busy, and short-staffed. The two waiters were on their toes the entire time, but always friendly, smiling and apologetic about the wait.

Rain has fantastic cooks. We had the mozzarella sticks for an appetizer. The BEST in town! When my significant other ordered them, I had visions of those overprocessed, over-breaded sticks-from-a -freezer-bag that you get at Sonic. Nothing like that here. These are homemade. They were huge - but not ridculously so like the ones Spanky's serves - lighted breaded (almost a tempura type batter, very light and unobtrusive, adding just enough crunch and contrast to the melty mozz)...just ooey-gooey deliciousness. Thehomemade Ranch dressing for dipping complemented the sticks perfectly. A plate of five sticks was more than enough for two people.

We had breakfast for dinner, and both meals were outstanding. I had the vegetable omelet with diced potatoes. The omelete was LOADED with veggies, including baby spinach. The potatoes were cooked perfectly, not a hard, undercooked one in the bunch. A good, housemade salsa accompanied the meal. My sig other had the chorizo omelet with hashbrowns. The servings were generous and priced lower than similar meals at IHOP and other chain breakfast joints.

We are always on the lookout for the great offbeat, hole-in-the-wall, locally-owned eateries in a market dominated by chains. Rain will be a regular stop for us...

SOOOO THIS PLACE WAS AHHHH-MMAAZZINGGGG! (BUT) waitress forgot so many of our things … (i had to ask for lemons multiple times until my husband got up and just got them from someone else) I also had to remind her of my fruit dish and she completely forgot about bringing our potato chips. We didn’t get those until we were already finished. Then she had told me that they are not able to mix egg whites, and regular egg because they don’t stick together. But I cook egg whites, and eggs together at home all the time and have no issues so I didn’t understand that part? . We had to get up and get our own to go boxes… (We waited and waited and she just never came. finally after waiting about 20 minutes for her to come get our card and receipt we had to wait an additional 15 minutes for her to bring it back to us. Before we got it back in the 15 minutes, she took walking around with our card!!!! LAYING Our card down on another table to wear another customer picked it up!!! That kind of did it for me.

Again, I do want to say the food was absolutely top-notch!!! It was so good all the food was fresh. I’m a family of five and each one of us enjoyed our meal incredibly! It is quality food, and a clean restaurant I just think the Service we got that day wasn’t the best. Food gets 5 stars!!!!!

we got blueberry pancakes, egg whites with fruit Pork chops with French Chicken strips with Hamburger And I believe a burger with bacon and french fries We ordered those potato chips homemade and it was all absolutely fantastic. I recommend...

FOOD: The food is really good! The ham steak on the breakfast plate is cut really thin, I prefer a thick ham steak with breakfast. The omelet that my son ordered was good. The over medium eggs that I ordered were perfectly cooked. The French toast is dipped and rolled in oatmeal and cereal, which is supposedly their signature dish. However, I found that French toast wet in the center, so I did not like it. But my son loved it. It's covered in powdered sugar, which I prefer not to have. The coffee is really good, it's Starbucks Pike Place. SERVICE: We went there on a Sunday morning and the service was great, fast, efficient. The food did not take long to come out. The waitress was cheery, happy, informative, and circled back to the table numerous times to refill our coffee. We were in and out within the hour. ATMOSPHERE: The chairs are not the most comfortable, the decor is Industrial style. It was a cold winter day, 24° outside, and the restaurant was cold inside. We had to sit near the kitchen to feel a little warmth. OVERALL: We are from Houston and it was our first time there. Great food, great service, clean restaurant! I DO HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS PLACE...
