Taquería Autlán — Restaurant in Lubbock

It wasn’t super crowded but definitely busy (we were there a little earlier than usual for dinner) for a Friday night.

I ordered the Tres Amigos fajitas - beef, chicken, and shrimp with onions & green bell peppers on a bed of rice & topped with queso fresco - with flour tortillas and a side of nopales. Every last bite was delicious! The nopales were the best I’ve ever had! Their complimentary salsa was also great and went with my fajitas beautifully!

My son ordered the Gringa Quesadilla. It was huge and he still managed to put it all away!

My husband ordered the Birria Tacos (a first time for any of us). It came with a consommé that popped the flavor of the meat in the tacos AND in the quesadilla in the perfect way! He kept commenting about the spices in the sauce and how awesomely tasty it was! He was still hungry and ordered the Super Burrito (I don’t recall everything that was in it) and it too was delicious! My husband loved that consommé so much, so he poured it on the burrito too!

We love trying new places, and when we find little gems like this, especially locally owned places, we love to tell everyone we can!

My biggest regret is that it took us so long to try them out!

The service was great, too. Got chips and salsa within a minute or two of sitting, drink orders were taken and delivered in a timely manner, and she was very patient with us gringos 🤣 when we wanted more information on the menu items!

Autlan was really good about a year ago but the last two times that I’ve ordered from here they’ve messed up twice on my order. The first time, they had shorted me on my Birria tacos and I talked to the manager and got it squared away with not issues or refunds needed at all because it was no biggie! Now the second time I came back is different. It’s 2:30pm on a Thursday afternoon and I had called in 7 Birria tacos and two drinks for my mom, brother, and I. On top of the women on the other end of the phone laughing, the food was about $32 and I still decided to leave a $10 tip. My tacos had thick, course, black hair in the meat and cheese. I called and asked to speak to a manager and the same girl who took my order spoke to me and had apologized and said they can remake the food or refund me, and I explained that I just wanted the refund. She then apologized and said that I ONLY needed to bring the receipt. When I got there and man had helped me and then said that his manager said that they needed the plate as well. Never did the manger come and speak to me and on top of this I never leave reviews but it’s frustrating, very unprofessional, annoying, and rude that I had to drive across town, they tell me one thing, and then when I get there tell me another thing. My boyfriend and I have been going to Autlan for a couple of years now. The food was always great but over the past year the quality and consistency has deteriorated. There have been multiple occasions when we order tacos and the meat comes out dry/hard or when we order 7 mares (soup) and the taste is always different. Some occasions it is under or overly salty even when we both order the same soup at the same time. They make each bowl individually so you would think they have a set measurement of seasoning but this is not the case. After a couple of these instances we decided we would talk to the manager and he thanked us for letting him know and said they would strive for better/more consistency, this was a couple of months ago. Today we ordered a menudo and 7 mares. The 7 mares was great but the menudo was luke warm, we returned it not just because it was luke warm but it was simply not good, and ordered a 7 mares instead and this one was boiling hot and under seasoned. The prices have also gone up and with the lack of consistency in greatness its not even worth it. Like previously mentioned we have gone to Autlan for so long that we continue to give them the benefit of the doubt. Unfortunately every other visit continues to be a disappointment.
