We were so excited to finally get to try here! Got there about quarter to 5:00, and there were only two other customers there. The hostess came up and we told her we had 3, and she looked at her seating chart, and looked at it, then finally asked a male worker who was sitting at the bar where she should seat us, he came over and said, âAnywhere, as long as theyâre outta here by 6:30.â! Literally both were talking right in front of us. The hostess asked if a certain table was okay with him, and he said again, âAny of them are fine, as long as they leave by 6:30.â. He, nor barely she, ever once acknowledged us. She literally had us follow her to a booth, and never explained how themselves or how apologize for their rudeness. I said that Iâd never been told at a restaurant that I had to leave by a certain time, and she said, âYeah well, weâre a small space and have a bunch of reservations, and the dinner menu doesnât start until 5:00 for yâall to order from, but hereâs a partial menu (it had 4 or 5 things to choose from) that yâall can get something from.â. So-they 100% acted like they did not want us there, did not want our business, had a dinner menu that couldnât be ordered from until 5:00 (which we would have cared less about if they hadnât said they wanted us out by 6:30), AND wanted us gone by 6:30! We all just got up and left. All they said was, ââbyeââ, when we walked out the door. Now, nowhere does it say that itâs a âreservations onlyâ restaurant, so why on earth they booked every-single-table, I have no idea. They werenât closing for a private party, they were just rude...and Iâm so disappointed in them. Whatâs bad is that one of the people in our party of 3 owns a local restaurant with her husband in a neighboring town, and her in-laws have owned multiple restaurants around Lynchburg...and she was mortified by how this was handled. She said that NEVER should this have happened, nor should they have been so rude and unprofessional...which is what I am most upset about. The 3 of us there are all professionals. We are all local, well-educated women, who were looking forward to a fun evening out, all while supporting our local businesses by not eating at a chain-restaurant. And, unfortunately for Greyâs, we were still able to accomplish this by patronizing Rivermont Pizza (YUMMMM) and Dublin Coffeehouse (LOVED!). Yes, I could have asked for and spoken to the manager, although Iâm pretty certain the worker sitting at the bar was him, but after that encounter, I really just wanted to leave. It left a bad taste in my mouth, and I have absolutely no desire to ever step foot in...
Read moreI was SO disappointed. Everyone's told us how good this place was. It was our first visit and the whole family was there to celebrate the marriage of our daughter and son-in-law. I ordered the fried cauliflower which was out of this world good but no one else in the party liked their food. We wasted over 250 dollars. My daughter wouldn't eat her food. She ordered shrimp and grits and the tiger shrimp were cleaned but the shells were left on their tails and the shrimp were immersed with the other ingredients. In her nice dress she would have had to dig her hands into her food and de-shell her sauce-covered shrimp to eat it. It would have required her to use bad manners to finish preparing her food, not to mention it would have been embarrassing. She is too shy to send a dish back to the chef. Instead she is like the majority of people and will just never try the restaurant again. With what she paid for that dish, it should have been completely prepared and plated for her ready to eat. She tried to go ahead with eating it without the shrimp but she disliked the flavor because the sauce tasted like plain tomato sauce. I tried it and she was right. My husband ordered sauteed chicken with asparagus but he was disappointed because the chicken was white and had not been browned and the seasoning was bland. He was irritated because he said it was fine to eat but for what he got he greatly overpaid for the dish. My son-in law got a stacked sandwich with bacon and chicken. He said it was like pub food and had no seasoning. He was disappointed that he overpaid for the quality as well. He and I ordered the bread pudding which was very good. The good points of the meal did not make up for the negative and we would rather have spent all that money and gone to a place that had has consistently excellent quality. When our goal had been to celebrate and enjoy each other's company, we all left feeling cheated and wishing we had gone...
Read moreWe have been to this restaurant many times and the food is always amazing. Tonight was no exception. The pan seared salmon was delicious. We enjoyed an appetizer of Fried green Tomatoes with chèvre that was unique and the presentation was terrific. My son and wife ordered the grilled chicken with wilted spinach with a tomato marmalade and both loved it. Sean is a magician when it comes to gourmet food.
The one disappointment for the evening was the unpleasant bartender. We had to wait at the bar for a few minutes for our table reservation. She immediately asked us for a drink order as soon as we grabbed a stool. We hadnât even had a moment to look at the chalkboard options so my wife politely asked for a minute to make our selections. We all wanted a drink.
For the next ten minutes we watched her take another partyâs bar stool order that arrived well after us, then she rambled around doing nothing in particular. She walked past us no less than four times while I tried to catch her eye. She went out of her way not to look at us. Her fellow employee pointed out that we seemed ready to order. She said something under her breath and continued ignoring us for five more minutes while all three of us tried to get her simple attention.
We were very relieved when they told us our table was ready. It was a painfully awkward 15 minutes that seemed like an hour. Maybe she had a really bad day? But tonight at least, she wasnât capable of her job and failed the restaurant and failed us miserably.
The food and table service were so superior, we soon forgot the recent unpleasantness. We even topped off the night with Chocolatte Truffle Pie and Apple Walnut Bread pudding. We all needed something sweet to counteract the sour disposition of Ms. Inked Persimmons. The desert worked itâs cleansing...
