Let's get this cleared up. The food is great. The jjajangmyun is hearty. The noodles are solid. And the sauce, although it could use a bit more gravy, is well made. And the tangsooyuk is a gem. Large chunks of tender meat just fried in time. Really well done.
So then why 3-stars? It's REALLY expensive, considering that this is served in a not-so-sanitary food court. Like the overall food court is dark, musty, and just takes away from your enjoying the food. It really is unfortunate that the great cooking takes a hit due to it being served in worn out plastic trays, barely metal utensils, etc. I was surprised the dishes and bowls were not made of paper.
Essentially, Malri Hyang is serving sit-down restaurant caliber food at mid-high restaurant prices at a food court. No different than serving omakase sushi on a 90 min flight from SEA to SFO. The owner / chef should seriously consider opening a proper restaurant and lowering prices. They would do...
Read moreA friend of mine recommended this place so I drove for 30 mins to give it a shot and it was totally worth it! I’d say this place is the by far the best Korean-Chinese restaurant in greater Seattle area. Loved their Tangsuyuk (better version of sweet & sour pork) so much. p.s. I think they deserve more stars but heard that the new owner took over the place recently and couldn’t find a way to reset the old reviews and ratings. But I bet it’ll get more stars eventually. I gave 5 stars.
Update: Recently visited there again and ordered stir-fried glass noodle with rice (잡채밥) and it was the worst 잡채밥 I’ve ever had. Had Tangsuyuk also but it was soggy this time. I guess their food taste isn’t consistent or tend to degrade when it’s busy or whatever hope it...
Read moreIt was really hard to find a good Korean-style chinese restaurant in Washington. Especially when you are craving a Jajangmyeon.
Today, I wanted to have Jajangmyeon and I got the information from the comments saying that the owner changed. So, out of curiosity, I tried the same dish that I usually ordered.
I think the only difference between the two is a side dish and price. The old one has only one side dish which was small portion of pickled radish and the price was $18.
However, the new one has a bit better variety if side dishes. They gave me Kimchi and pickled radish with $20. Personally, thinking about the portion and the price, it was pricey but overall it was okay to try it out when you miss...
