I placed an order here for chicken katsu and shrimp tempura on January 15th. I read some reviews and thought I'd give this place a shot and saying that I'm disappointed isn't a strong enough expression of my discontent.
I'll start with the Shrimp Tempura. If you're going to us frozen shrimp, that's fine but maybe actually cook them? When the food arrived to my house the shrimp were still frozen...in the food. So yeah there's $10 wasted.
Then we have the chicken katsu which was just awful. Chicken katsu is supposed to have a crispy thin panko crisp. This is achieved from frying it, just like their menu will have you believe they do. It's a relatively easy process and provides delicious results.Except they don't do that. They use a frozen chicken patty with no coating whatsoever that looks like it's been boiled. It's disgusting. It is absolutely not in any way, shape or form chicken katsu. And, cherry on top, it was cold. So disappointing.
The soup was fine. Standard but fine.
My attempt for a refund was rebuffed. I can not say this enough: the food was awful. Period. And for what I received it was VERY expensive.
Bottom line? Gross, inedible...
Read moreMy wife and I recently dined at Umami Japanese & Korean Cuisine and it was a truly memorable experience. As avid sushi enthusiasts, we've explored many sushi spots across Michigan over the past 8 years, and Umami stands out as a jewel among them.
We indulged in several rolls of sushi, each more delicious than the last. The freshness of the ingredients was evident, with every bite bursting with flavor. The miso soup was a comforting start, setting the stage for the sushi's star performance.
But what really elevated our experience was the exceptional service. The staff were not only attentive but also demonstrated a genuine passion for their craft, which shone through in every detail, from the presentation of the dishes to their knowledge of the menu.
In summary, Umami Japanese & Korean Cuisine is not just a restaurant; it's a culinary journey that leaves a lasting impression. For anyone seeking some of the best sushi in Michigan, this is a destination not to be missed. We're already looking forward to...
Read moreA Fantastic Place in New Hudson. The Sushi I had tonight was amazing....I had the Salmon on the Beach (don't let the name fool you the food seems to be very authentic, I think they just named it this way to appeal to New Hudson's simpler sensibilities). This Salmon on the beach was amazing and I have never had Sushi so good before and would recommend that people from Brighton drive to New Hudson as this is a great restaurant.
The decor is great inside, they have done a fantastic job renovating this space and it has a simple elegance that makes you feel welcome and free to come as you are, whether still dressed up in your work clothes or in more casual clothes.
The staff is very helpful, kind and the service is excellent here without being too intrusive. They posess the energy that a new talented start up restaurant possesses and the quality and attention to detail shows and I encourage you to visit as this is a...
