I have been coming here since QQ opened (~15 years ago?), and some change has occurred in the last 2 years. New owner, staff change? I just know that after a decade or more of good (not the best, but quite good) quality/taste, the Rice Cake is now HORRIBLE. The last few times I've been there, the Rice Cake is now undercooked, crumbly, mushy, sour... my understanding of the taste and mere words cannot properly describe how bad it is when compared to properly made Rice Cake. I've had to resteam them just to make it passable enough to consume (still bad). I've had Rice Cake from bakeries and dim sum restaurants in LA, Chicago, Atlanta, Toronto, etc. and I've never had anything this disappointing. I'll now be going to Tai Pan instead (where I went from the 90s until QQ opened). I hope someone from QQ reads this and figures out what's wrong with their recipe or method... maybe I was just there on multiple bad days, but that doesn't explain why they didn't test it and throw away the bad batches. Go to Tai Pan and tell me theirs isn't far superior now.
On another note, the buns haven't really changed in size, but I have noticed a difference in the amount of filling (when applicable). For example, the steamed pork bun does have more breading as compared to several years ago, when they used to be absolutely packed with meat/filling. I found an old one I had stored/frozen a few years back, and it does weigh more due to the extra meat. It's not an extreme difference, just an observation of mine as someone who has been frequenting the place for over a decade. I can't comment on the custom event cakes or drinks, as I've never ordered those before.
Good luck in the future QQ! The establishment with edible Rice Cake gets...
Read moreI was expecting high quality service and product based on the good reviews in the past. However, after todays experience I am pretty sure I will not go back again. Both the product and services were subpar. I ordered 8 inch mango birthday cake and they charged $40 for that. It was different than the pictures online and only the top has some bits of mango. When I questioned the guy dismissively said that they were not doing the cake covered with mango for several months due to labor shortage but I was not told about it when I ordered. When I called the day before I wanted to put some birthday greetings on the cake, and the lady told me to let them do it at the store during pickup. When I told the guy about the birthday message, he went in without taking my message and came out with Chinese writings happy birthday on the cake, which shocked me because this is for a nonChinese person. He was very rude and told me that he didn’t write Chinese but how would you assume that I wanted Chinese words on the cake without checking with me first??? Also they only...
Read moreOkay for my birthday, we ordered a cake around 10 AM today and it wasn’t that they made a whole new cake and everything but to write it, you know what I’m saying? We left it there to pick it up later because of work and when we arrived we had to wait 10 minutes for him to write the letters, not even just that but the words are so ugly. My mom wanted to eat this other item as well and I was asking the cashier a question if it was coconut flavored or not, where she glared at me. I asked once more to the guy and the girl both presence, and none answered back. Rude attitude, horrible atmosphere it was so cramped, not to mention that most of these items sit in this bakery and dot in here until who knows what. We were going to buy a boba drink but their attitude is so rude that we left. Horrible. Especially on...
