Google would not let me post this without giving this store at least a one star. But it doesn't deserve any star.
I went shopping with 4 Meijer coupons today, $2 off meat, $2 off frozen food, $2 off produce, and free Meijer chips or pretzel with total purchase of $10 or more. After I paid, I checked my receipt and realized only the meat and frozen food coupons went through. I went back to the cashier, and asked if there was any limits of the number of coupons I could use in the same transaction. She politely told me that she didn't think so and sent me to the customer service with all 4 coupons.
The woman at customer service looked at the receipt and the coupons first suggested that the $2 off produce coupon didn't go through because I only purchased $1 banana. I told her I also bought peppers. I looked at the receipt and pointed out I bought plenty of tomatoes, grapes, peppers. She used a harsh tone to tell me:"I can see that, hon."
Then she told me I needed to spend more than $10 in chips and pretzels to use the free Meijer chips coupon. I told her it said "free Meijer chips or pretzels on total purchase of $10 and more. She interrupted me and said "I am going to give it to you today. Here's your money. Have a good day, hon" while shoving everything toward me. I stayed and pointed out that since there is a section that listed the exclusions included alcohol, tobacco.... ( which meant it's a total purchase not just chips). She didn't allow me to finish my words and said " I don't know how to explain it better. Have a nice day." I told her "why are you raising your voice at me?" Because that's what she was doing.
She said " Because I can't do this all day. I have many other things to do. HAVE A NICE DAY." I was getting mad. I told her I just needed to clarify if I can use coupons next time (when the wording is very confusing to me) again I wasn't able to finish my whole sentence. She interrupted with " of course you can use coupons. You are not listening. I don't know how to explain it more clearly." I felt mistreated, so I told her I wanted to see a manager. She called him and then said to the next customer "She just couldn't understand," " I do these 30 times a day" when I was standing by.
I was shaking with anger and humiliation of being humiliated in front of a group of strangers. When the manager came, I told him there was no dispute in regards to the money amount because she gave me $4 cash. I wanted to know the rule about the free chips with total purchase coupon. He told me it's a category coupon that I needed to buy $10 worth in chips to get it. I told him if that was that case they should say $10 purchase in chips. He said he couldn't do anything about the wording, and told me I was too loud and upset. I told him that was the tone the customer service people was using. He said he would talk to her about it. And that was it.
This is the first time in my life, I ever heard a customer service person talking to me in a raised voice, told me her conclusion in a condescending tone once and then interrupting me every time I wanted to explain my confusion. Insulting me in front of other customers and her colleagues makes her extra special.
Also, maybe the reason why she was doing "this" (explaining) 30 times a day results from other people also think "total purchase" means exactly that---total purchase.
I have been a loyal customer of Meijer many years. I was shocked by the unprofessional attitude. If a customer service person has other better things to do than explaining company policy to its customer during work hour, I can only say Meijer doesn't deserve anyone's business.
I attached a similar coupon but with different free item that...
Read moreThis review is only for the curbside grocery pickup. While this service is nice the whole crew seems to have a bad attitude. From the people who bring out your groceries always complaining to you about their job to the atrocious customer service provided by the manager/person in charge I spoke to when I had an issue with one of our orders (more on that below), I would recommend you go somewhere else for this service. This is not a unique service anymore and you have many options with far better service.
To continue about the incident when I had an issue with one of my orders... After getting home and unloading our curbside grocery order we noticed we were missing a good number of groceries that the employee who loaded our vehicle had not mentioned as unavailable. We double checked our order and sure enough we had over $40 worth of groceries that we were charged for but did not receive. I called into the store and eventually got in touch with the manager/person in charge of the curbside pickup area. From the beginning it was quite clear that they did not want to be talking to me. I attempted to explain the situation to them but got cut off halfway through and told "that doesn't make sense". After some further attempting to convince them that this actually did happen, I was told I would be called back and was abruptly hung up on. No phone number was taken and I hadn't even been given the chance to communicate the full list of missing items. An hour later they call back on a different phone and leave a voicemail saying that $20, only half the amount of missing groceries, was being refunded. So I proceeded to call back. I got in touch with the manager from the department again and they were immediately short and rude to me. Without using the word they called me a liar. I tried talking through it with them further but was forced to get assertive and bluntly ask if I was going to be refunded or not. They said "fine" and immediately proceeded to complain to me about their job and how inconvenient this whole refund process was going to be for them. Extremely unprofessional and horrible customer service. It would seem the bad attitude of this department comes from...
Read moreI don't shop here much, even though It's the closest grocery store to me. On my last shopping trip here, which will be my last, I waited in a self checkout line for 5+ mins. At 11pm, I was about to start ringing up my products. The cashier told me I had to move to the end of the line with a cashier. Why, because it was 11pm. Why does that matter? It doesn't. The store closes at midnight. Having worked as a cashier long ago, I know it takes about 5 mins, or less to close and count a drawer, unless they have garbage equipment or do dumb things.
They never made an announcement about closing the self serve registers. They never walked up to anyone in line and said they were closing those registers. However, they did have 3 people closing those registers for no good reason. Had all of them taken 2 drawers to count, it would have been done in 10 mins or so. Meaning, closing these registers early DOES NOT SAVE TIME!!!! It just wastes customers time.
Even though there were so few people shopping there, the line for the ONE checkout line was already 5-6 people long. Why? Because they shut down the self serve lines an hour early. Why? My best guess is ignorance.
Instead of having 3 of the self serve lines opened with one cashier attending them, which would be a smart move, they funneled everyone into one line. The cost to the store is the same. But, the amount of time customers spend in the store drops quite a bit, allowing for more people to move through. That increases sales and revenue. Since this store has my time is worthless and they don't want my money, I won't give it to them.
Sad thing is, I teach HS level math to college students. We cover topics like this in my classes. I show my students how to make things better. Unfortunately, Meijer doesn't hire people that passed HS level math.
Let me make this easy for you Meijer, I spend $300+ week on groceries. That money now and for a long time, has gone elsewhere because of stupid stuff like this. You could do better by hiring some people that can pass HS math. Who you got now, just...
