I've been a customer of the Wokery for almost 20yrs now. It all started when i used to live just a few short miles away. Since then i have lived in multiple states and fairly good sized cities and NOTHING comes close to this place.
Just yesterday i happened to be in Royal Oak and then went to a dine-in dinner at another local pizza joint with family (Wokery is take out only otherwise we would have went there). Afterwards I placed an order at the Wokery. Even re-heated the next day nothing comes close to this place for Sweet and Sour Chicken....when it is fresh...no other restaurant stands a chance.
Unlike chain restaurants, buffets and most other mid-to-high volume chinese restaurants serve the same old pre-processed chicken, sauce, egg rolls, etc. Most of the chicken is cooked/fried and it is mostly breading after the process is done. Not the Wokery. The chicken is huge chunks!....made daily. Always fresh vegitables in the sweet and sour sauce. The sauce?....good Lord!....the best! Egg rolls....are exactly how my mom's used to be when she made them from scratch. I cannot count how many times i have been to this restaurant and can honestly say i have never had a bad experience...once. Portion size vs price?...outstanding. I am not a small guy by any means and I can put food away with the best of them but i have YET to eat an entire combination dinner in one sitting....and it wasnt for a lack of trying or effort!
The older owners have moved on and i believe it is their daughter who now run this take-out gem....but the same quality and professionalism remain. Nothing comes close....and if i am within 50 miles....my order is placed! Try this great restaurant....but be warned....all those other restaurants will be garbage...
Read morePersonal Review: Wokery / Orange Chicken Dinner Combo. Chicken was better then China 1's, the way it was made and the size of the chunks. C1 is small and chewy gristle, where this was chunks of Breast meat. That was set aside and the Sauce was made separate, not really tasting orange, but had a heavy hint of sesame seed oil. Burnish flavor, poured over the top. The fried rice, had NO FLAVOR. I had to add chili oil / paste to give it some kind of flavor. And I see they scooped it out of a pre-made batch, where as to they do other places, but this was not appealing. Might as well be in a buffet line. The egg Roll was GREAT! Although, I didn't care for it to be halfway in the sauce for the chicken. It was fresh Hot! I will give it a 3 out of 5 Stars. Will I return... Probably in a pinch for an Egg Roll, but not sure of that Fried Rice, that wasn't very good. Chicken portion was good, fried rice, not good....

The soup was on the lower end of hot and sour soups I've had. If I return to this place, I wouldn't order it again. The General Tso's, however, was excellent. It wasn't groundbreaking, or especially unique, but it was delicious. The quantity bolstered the enjoyment- one could easily get two meals out of it as I did. I rarely order fried rice, but this place served excellent fried rice.
The service was excellent. It was quick, efficient, and pleasant. The lady who took my order was very nice, and I had my food within 15 minutes.
The atmosphere wasn't anything to write home about, it was a hole-in-the wall carry out restaurant, but it...
