Applebee's Grill + Bar — Restaurant in Madison

Had to go orders 3 different times, we typically get the same thing. Sweet potato fries, and a sampler basket with buffalo sauce and mozzarella cheese sticks. Of the 3 times, the first two times we paid extra for the white sauce that comes with the sweet potatoes, so we got two cups, one had barely any in it, and the other was half full, while the other two sauces that I didn't pay extra for, were full. The buffalo wings barely have much sauce on them, so they taste a bit dry. One of these times we had a free kids meal coupon, and we missed the part where it said dine in only. When ordering inside since we had the coupon, and without me realizing it was dine in only, the waitress had a hard time putting it in the POS system, and needed a manager. The manager, (did not get his name), gave me these dirty looks a few times, but never said anything. Paid for the order. When the waitress came out with our food, she said the manager wanted her to tell us its supposed to be dine in only. Which made it obvious why the manager was giving me looks, and had he just said that, we would have come in to eat, as my son won the coupon for doing good in school. I wish I had taken pictures, but I wont forget how much we enjoyed our meal. We have lived in Madison for about 25 years. Over that time we have tried Applebees on and off and have just never been impressed. Someone gave us a gift card recently so we decided to try again. We ordered takeout. We got the 2 for $25 deal. Spinach and artichoke dip, White Cheddar Chicken and 6 oz sirloin steak. Sides were garlic mashed potatoes, green beans and coleslaw. The chicken was some of the most tender we have ever had at a restaurant. The steak was cooked perfectly, which is very unusual since I like my steak rare. Typical of sirloin it was full of gristle, but flavorful. Sides were great! Only thing I would have a minor complaint about is that the coleslaw was put inside the same container as the hot food. The outside of the separate coleslaw cup had to be wiped off and if we didnt live really close, I would not have eaten it out of concern for food safety. We are looking forward to our next meal from this restaurant and hoping this will make us feel the same since it is such a convenient...

There are many very good places to eat in the area, but this is not one of them. Our server was was very slow. We waited 20 minutes for water, iced tea, and a coke. We waited another 15 minutes to order, even though we were ready when the drinks finally arrived and indicated so. My father in law says the heavier wait staff tends to be very slow. He was not wrong in this case, but I don't think the restaurant was sufficiently staffed for a Sunday. My burger was ordered rare (confirmed they can serve rare by request) with an untoasted roll, no butter, mayo, or cheese. The burger was well done, crispy and dry on a heavily buttered grilled roll, mayo on the side. The side of veggies was also over cooked and heavily salted. If the waitress returned to check on us, I would have sent it back. My F-I-L's mac and cheese was cold and 1/2 overcooked and 1/2 undercooked...how does that work?
