UPDATE The buffet has been closed since August 2024. I've been told the steam table will be fixed in August 2025. No buffet at this time, and I'd suggest calling to make sure.
You can still get items from the menu, though.
Just to start out with information that I didn't see in other reviews: the buffet is every day 11AM-2PM, and as of today, October 19th, 2023 the cost is $13.99 drink not included. Restrooms are straight through the 2nd set of double doors as you enter, otherwise you turn right to get to the cashier station where you pay or get seated.
We arrived around 11:30AM, as it's always a good idea to get there early so it's well stocked. It stayed well stocked the entire time we were there.
They brought out chips and salsa promptly, and the drinks soon after. The drink cups are larger (almost 2X larger) than most restaurants, and our unsweetened teas were $2.99 each, so I think it worked out to a pretty fair drink price, especially after refills. Water was free.
The food was delicious! We tried almost every item available and it all tasted great!
Two types of tamales - chicken with green sauce and beef with red sauce, 2 types of quesadillias - cheese and chicken, they have pans of ground beef, fajita chicken, refried beans, rice, shrimp and pasta with red cream sauce and noodles, chicken taquitos, chicken chimichangas, chicken enchiladas with red sauce or white cheese sauce, fried fish, BBQ wings, steaks, grilled pork, taco shells, stuffed mushrooms, a large pan of delicious white cheese sauce, a salad bar that also included shredded lettuce for tacos, sour cream, condiments, guacamole, condiments, and some desserts and fruit as well. I probably missed a couple of items, but as you can see, there was plenty of food available.
This was our 1st visit so I can't say if they always have all of these items. You could call and ask if you have your heart set on something being there.
The pictures are from the next day's visit, and there are different items!
It was very nice inside, plenty of seating, and someone checked on us often to see if everything was ok or if we needed anything. They were prompt at removing used plates as well. There were three different bottles of hot sauce on our table - red, green, and Tapatio red.
Kid friendly and a unique experience - we've only been to one other Mexican buffet.
We will absolutely come back - our only warning is - don't eat too much! With food this good...
Read moreMy husband and I recently travelled to the Madison area for an extended anniversary getaway. When we asked our tour guide for a recommendation for dinner, she suggested Mi Viejo, even though it is located a few miles out of town. Since we are still COVID cautious, we chose to order carry-out instead of eating in, but the restaurant appeared clean and up-to-date from our limited view at the register. Service was fast and friendly. I got the Special Nachos, and my husband got the Nachos Fajita Jalisco. We both had special requests for adjustments to our meals, which were honored with no problem. The food was absolutley delicious. Portions were huge. (I made two meals out of mine.) Each of us also received an order of chips and fresh salsa that was very good. Prices were reasonable. Our meal from Mi Viejo was one of the very best we had during our four days in Madison. We would definitely recommend this restaurant and hope to eat there again when we are...
Read moreThis was our first time at this restaurant for my 86 year old mother and me. It had come highly recommended. The food was really good, but the unfriendly staff, combined with my mom’s plate being dropped on her, and the table, made the experience terrible. Food was spilled all over my mom’s arm, and they apologized, and moved us to a different table, and gave us extra napkins, but that was the extent of it. I fully expected a manager to come to our table and apologize, and offer to deduct something off our bill. They did not even offer. My mom was so upset by the whole experience she was shaking. We definitely couldn’t enjoy our meal. I was kind of in shock, and worried about my mom, so I didn’t think to ask about to see a manager. I don’t think we’ll be back, unfortunately. Had they offered to compensate us, or even acted concerned about my mom, I might feel...
