My sister and I decided to give this pizza place a try considering we have always liked the one located in Huntsville. Food was okay however not impressive enough to ignore the poor customer service. When we arrived and initially placed our order everything was fine however, when I asked about a military discount the response I recieved was beyond ignorant and completely disrespectful to any and all service members. I never expect a discount but always ask in the event an establishment does offer one. However, the employee decided that a simple no was not a good enough response and decided to provide an excuse as to why Sam and Greg’s doesn’t offer a discount. The response I recieved was and I quote “Our city has so many rich, high ranking military members that by providing them with a discount would be unfair and disrespectful to those of us that are not as wealthy”. Perhaps he could tell I wasn’t part of the elite and thought that I would and could potentially share in his privledged struggle of why my choices in life have led me to be anything but rich. Well, my face said otherwise and I’m assuming he recieved that message loud and clear considering he immediately set two glasses on the counter and literally walked away without even picking back up the receipts or anything. My sister and I just sat there wondering if the glasses were for us and whether or not we just take the silverware, I mean the conversation abruptly ended and he walked away. After dining my pregnant sister wanted ice cream and a different employee that was behind the counter when the initial incident happened was having a personal conversation with a friend at a nearby table and I swear we stood by the register and ice cream station for what seemed like a good 3-5 minutes however, that lady who was still sitting with her friend definitely looked at us but didn’t acknowledge us so we decided to leave pretty annoyed at everything that transpired over the entire course of dining at Sam and Greg’s. Other than the initial “what the hell is wrong with you” look that we gave the cashier, we never once had an attitude, complained, raised our voices, in fact we tried our best to be understanding as I have worked in the food industry as well as customer service for many years and I know there is a lot more that goes on behind the scenes than what is typically presented to the public. However, after a month or so I am still pretty bothered by this experience and mostly for the lack of respect towards our military members (active, retired, and/or veterans). You can find bad service anywhere but the military discount excuse was a first for me and I hope it was the last! I will not go back to this restaurant and I don’t want any handouts so please don’t reach out thinking I want a free pizza because I don’t and will not accept it if offered. Perhaps the only advice I can provide is educate your staff on how to properly communicate with guests regardless of their political opinions as their responses reflect very poorly on...
Read moreTried out Sam & Greg's while visiting a couple of buddies in the area this past weekend. Great little place with tremendous atmosphere and pretty delicious food. I took a chance on one of their medium-sized strombolis (which is essentially a stromboli apparently caught in nuclear fallout judging by how ridiculously large it is compared to the small) and it was fantastic. It looked to have been prepared in a wood-fired oven, and it was done so amazingly - the crust was crispy but not overcooked, and all of the toppings were piping hot and flavorful. Overall, my lunch tasted fresh and delicious - absolutely no complaints there! The only thing I'm not that crazy about is the pricing scheme though. For my stromboli I got a total of 6 toppings - 3 average (mozzarella, pepperoni & green peppers) and 3 "premium" (bacon, tomato & spinach). (I'm not sure why the three premiums I chose are considered "premium" when you can get them pretty much anywhere and in any season, but whatevs - everybody's gotta have a niche I suppose...) For those toppings on a medium stromboli, and a drink, my bill came to 30 bucks. No seriously, 30 dollars. Since our lunch is pretty much only once-a-year, during the holidays, I just overlooked the price and enjoyed the moderately expensive meal; but the cost is definitely more than I think it's worth for what was ordered. If the "premium" toppings were something along the lines of calamari, truffles, pork belly, prosciutto, goat cheese, etc., I might be able to swallow those prices, but for bacon...tomato? Nah, sorry...
Despite the ridiculous toppings charges though, I can seen myself trying Sam & Greg's out once more at least - like I mentioned, the food was still pretty great. But I'll definitely be more selective regarding what I order so that I don't come out of there with a bill as high as a full meal at...
Read moreHorrible pizza and horrible service. We came for my sons birthday for the first time and tried four different pizzas. Cheese, Pepperoni, Margarita Pizza, and meat lover pizza. First, they messed up on the pepperoni pizza and tried to give us two cheese pizzas. We finally received the pepperoni pizza and wasn’t impressed. After eating my sons uncle wanted to get ice cream. I was taking a little longer than I should and I wanted to leave a review on the lady who was being patient. She seems as if she had a bad day and I wanted to leave a nice review. After asking her name she huffed and got a tone and asked me why. I asked again and she said why so, I told her I wanted to leave a review. She quickly got snappy and said something about a review over telling one of the guys to wear his mask. So I was kinda of confused why I would leave a review about someone being asked to wear their mask. So I said no that’s not it and she said I’ve been cussed out today and etc while still getting an attitude with me for no reason. I’ve never had such an awful experience with customer service. I don’t know if she said she was the manager or not but I was going to take a picture to post it and tell anywho who thought about coming, don’t come when she is here. She made this first time experience horrible and honestly we came to try the food to possible get a huge order . We normally go places and if we like it, place huge order and tip huge. We wanted to with this place but not now. Whoever the manager is, I would love to speak to them about this...
