Sushi Express — Restaurant in Madison

If it were possible to give this place more than 5 stars, I would. This is the single best restaurant in all of Madison:

The sushi itself is incredibly good quality. All of it is hand-made, with top-quality ingredients. I've had sushi from dozens of other places, and each of those others make me think "I wish I was having Sushi Express".

The prices are also worth mentioning. You can get 3 rolls (18 pcs) for only $13.50; comparatively, most sushi places elsewhere charge at least $10 for only 1 roll (6 pcs). This breaks down to $0.75/pc, vs the typical at least $1.67/pc, so it far exceeds any expectation in terms of cheapness.

I come here with my boyfriend just about every other day. While the restaurant is somewhat small, it makes up for it with a quiet, calming atmosphere. Beyond the sushi, the fried rice is also out of this world good.

And going beyond just the food, the service is excellent too. Eliana typically serves us, and deserves a special mention for her consistent kindness and professionality. The other staff are wonderful too, and always make you feel welcome. Trust me, watching them work, it's no overstatement to say these are some of the hardest working people you've ever met. It's clear they bring a passion and care to every bit of service they offer, and the chefs put real dedication into their food.

I order from here quite often and service is usually good, especially with the delivery drivers, but today my delivery driver didn’t follow my delivery instructions to buzz the apartment (so I didn’t know he was even here) and was incredibly rude with me when he finally gave me my food. The driver called me to tell me he was on his way so I told him to buzz up when he gets here. I am in a wheelchair so it is a hassle to go all the way downstairs to get my delivery and most food delivery people are willing to come up to my door. This driver barely got out of his car when I sent my girlfriend down to get the food. When she asked why he didn’t buzz and explained the situation, he proceeded to act rude and told her to take it up with his boss. The manager was empathetic, apologized and gave us a 20% off for compensation. I appreciate the kind act but I was moreso concerned about this drivers actions and wanted to make sure someone would be talking with him. Overall, this was a terrible experience with Sushi Express and if I do order from here in the future, I hope their delivery drivers act with better...

Absolutely worth it! An almost flawless dining experience. I have visited this restaurant numerous times, and each time, the staff greets me with unwavering enthusiasm, which never fails to leave a deep impression on me. I am absolutely in love with their fried crab legs and shumai—these are must-tries! The rich umami of the shumai, complemented by the delicate sweetness of the sauce, will make you fall in love with this place.

I highly recommend almost every sushi roll here! The avocado shrimp tempura roll, eel roll, California roll, and spicy crab roll, paired with an avocado salad and miso soup, create a dining experience that feels like a celebration of life’s beauty. Moreover, if you visit during a holiday, you might receive a delightful surprise gift—like the Valentine’s Day chocolates I once received, which truly touched me.
